Cadell Street Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Goolwa

I've had to modify the following review - I hadn't been for 8 months after a massive let down with their hot chips... This was how the original review started:

Been here many times over many years. The hot chips were the attraction - these were the equal best with Soto's fish shop at Semaphore....

.....This was the point where the wheels fell off with this original review and I explained the let down from the expected hand cut and artfully fried hot chips that were beautifully crispy on the outside with warm fluffy rich potato insides which instead turned out to be the worst cardboard indigestion triggering mouthfuls of all kinds of horrible that I was left to ponder after I finished crying...

Well, I decided to try again on December 31, 2021. I can safely say that my mind was again blown (but in the way it used to be when the world was in balance and their chips were worth driving over an hour for). They'd clearly put fresh oil in the fryers. The chips were some of the best anyone could expect to taste the world over. I ate until my tummy hurt and then I ate some more - crispy, crunchy and clean would describe the outside of these wonders with puffy delicate sumptuous clouds of wonderment on the inside. If you've ever wondered what heaven could taste like, then do yourself a favour.

Update - they finally changed owners a couple of years ago (roughly). These new guys have taken the humble chip to a new level I've not experienced in my lifetime....

Ok, so im not a big fish and chip fan simply due to the oily heavy batter. This place however was by far the best fish and chippery I've been to since I can remember !! The gar, butter fish, and flake I had (shared) were excellent ! Not overcooked and the batter was light, tasty and not over oily, the chips are made fresh in house and again cooked very well with perfect crunchy little ones. The others also had dimmies and dippy dogs all without complaint and the pineapple fritter was the best my wife's had. The place was flat out yet we were served politely and promptly. Sorry for the essay but it was all worth the mention ;) We're visiting the area for a few days and we'll be back without a...

Well after all the good reviews I read I’m VERY disappointed Photos speak for themselves over $56 “worth” of food wasted flake waterlogged tatse bad- potato cakes were paperthin with no batter left on and well over cooked. Dim sims so far cooked they were exploding chips too far cooked and taste like they had been cooked twice , we waited 40 minutes longer than the 20 minute wait- so an hour for a phone order! Girl cooking with red hair swearing and yelling etc with a room full of customers - she would be rude and abrupt when customers would ask how much loner for their order ?

Won’t be going back want a refund don’t...
