Saltwater Cafe has very poor quality control and a blasé attitude.
I have resisted writing a review and have always been in favour that maybe they 'were having a bad night or really busy', especially running a small business myself. However this review comes from orders over the past 12+ months after moving into the area and hoping this would be our local.
10-12+ or so orders later, tonight was the straw that broke the camels back belonging a eclair that probably should have gone in the bin days ago. It shows the care that this business does not have any quality control and does not care for it's customers especially when this particular product that i don't think is made in house was the final straw. Many issue have been with pizza, schnitzel packs, yiros and burgers. Overall the food can taste good if you get what is ordered but is not consistent and you never know what you are going to get on the day.
Over the past year or so we have had multiple errors with orders, wrong meals brought out (dine in), food paid for and not delivered, chicken bones in pizza (delivery). On multiple occasions have called restaurant to advise what has happened only to be told they are too busy to deal with it or have a 'what do you want' attitude.
If you have the time to get a re fire and wait for your food or deliver if it is wrong (in my experience near half of the time) you may have an enjoyable experience albeit a long one.
Unfortunately I have accepted the order as is on occasion as I do not have the time or inclination to argue but will not be ordering from this...

Review - Pizza - Gluten Free Supreme 3/10 - Chips 9/10 - Fish Cake 9/10
Pizza - have changed the gluten free base, the previous one was sensational, this new one is powdery and rubbish, also this new technique of laying a big slice of ham over the base before putting the topping on is a flop, you are not allowing the top of the base to cook so it remains doughy, the pizza here used to be a 9/10 but the new owners have lost the mojo
Chips - quality, good clean oil used, hot and not soggy. they can be a bit hit and miss with this so hoping there is some consistency now
Fish Cake - This is the real deal fish cake, firm, crispy like they should be, not the soft squishy rubbish, keep it up
a bit of background here, Saltwater Cafe was the absolute best takeaway in Goolwa hands down, they sold the business, the new owners have had an up and down ride to get it right, being local we have stuck with them through it however there is a pizza takeaway that opened two doors down in competition so why you would change a winning formula and try to reinvent the wheel is beyond me
we will not be back, we gave the new owners a fair suck of the saveloy but they can’t get it right, non pizza people just can’t make good pizza
turn the oven up, cook the...
Read moreWent to cafe for lunch today sat down after ordering within 5 mins after ordering our meals were brought to us, which i thought strange that it took minimal time to be prepared cooked and served to us.. Now let’s keep in mind that we order Seafood and how dangerous seafood can be if not cooked correctly. The first thing I noticed was the outer layers of my food was dark and somewhat burnt or over cook, but then when I cut my scallop in half i noticed it wasnt cooked and the inside was still jelly texture. I returned my plate and was offered another meal, great thankyou they then Brought the second plate and although the scallops were cooked the out side of the rest of the seafood pieces were burnt. I was totally devastated as i had been looking forward to this meal since September 2022 when I visited this cafe last time and was so happy for the meal I had eaten. But. I am done it cost me $40+ today and i could not eat most of eat …. I will not be going back as there are pleanty of other dinning area’s to go, i am just upset , they offered a complementary cake which i thought was hilariously rude I didn’t like the food why would I want a single 4 dollar cake :( The other thing when I asked if the fish was flake I was told yes but it was...
