And it went a little something like this…. Placed order at 6.10pm Friday night. It was a substantial order for our family gathering. We were told it would be ready in 20 minutes. Arrived at 6.30pm. While my sister in law was paying for the order I noted that two burgers were in the process of being wrapped. A steak works and a works burger. Yay! I thought to myself. That is my husband and I’s order so they must be running on time. Very impressive as they were clearly very busy. Those same burgers were placed into the hotbox, obviously just to keep warm for the imminent completion of the rest of the order. Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock. Half an hour later our order is called as the rest of the order is now ready. All that while I have been noting that those burgers are sitting in the hotbox, also drawing the attention of both my husband and sister in law to the burgers. I had been pretty sure they were ours at first but now they had been sitting there since a couple of minutes after our arrival at 6.30pm. Surely not? It was now 7pm. And then I see them retrieve those burgers from the hotbox to place with our order. I am not an unreasonable person, I could clearly see that they were very busy, however I also don’t like my food sitting around for ½ an hour in what I subsequently discovered was a not-so-hot box. When we were collecting our order I stated to the lady behind the counter (and I stress – I was polite, exceedingly so) that I had noted that the burgers had been placed in the hotbox ½ hour ago and I was just raising it with her now in case there were any problems when we got home and unwrapped it. Her response? ‘No they weren’t’. I don’t like being called a liar, but remained calm, explaining that yes, they actually had been, as I had arrived at 6.30, watched them being wrapped and placed in the hotbox at that time and had kept an eye on them since. It was now 7pm. Her response was a curt ‘Oh well, bring it back’. What do say in response to a comment like that without causing a scene? I really want to support small local business. But when I get home, unwrap a burger and find it room temperature and dried out after being dismissed as a liar by staff, it certainly does nothing to inspire me to take my or my family’s business back there. I’m not sure if she thought I was after a freebie or she naturally defaults to defensiveness when faced with an unexpected situation, but the lack of acknowledgement or apology was really disappointing. I was going to wander in today to give them this feedback directly. But frankly, I didn’t want to be on the receiving end of her rudeness again. The burger would have actually been delicious, had it been fresh. The rest of the order was great. And the funny thing is I would have not been writing this review about my disappointing burger had there been even a hint of an apology from her because I saw how busy they were and I would have let it go. Ultimately, it wasn’t the food that was the problem, it was...
Read more11/10 recommend the food and service is worth the time and effoort. Not just a local stop, but a gemstone for the area. Worth skipping bribie to see the seafood selection here.
Personally the calamari was the best in area, I can’t complain about size nor the consistency. Chips and gravy perfect combo.
Reviews aren’t my cup of tea, but this is the sort of place where I’d rather leave a review than not.
In this day and age. Good food at the right price is always a myth. Not here. And if you’re not a quality over quantity person, you could recognise the sense of respect and kindness that few managements are able to upkeep.
I hope that others can appreciate that which many might underestimate.
Many years have passed and this joint is still strong and not a rip off. Where else can you say that about...
Read moreWhat a great experience! Visiting from USA, chose to try them out over other local options. Five different fishes, some local and some imported. We had barramundi and sweet lip. Others included cod, flake and one other. Very fresh, great coating that was nice and crunchy with a side of chips. The portions were almost too much to eat and the price was a delight. We walked in and ordered, left to the bottle shop for a beer and came back to a large package of food. We ate at the tables outside and it was clean and under cover. The owner chatted with us and we let him know he had it right. We have traveled extensively in Australia and Europe and this ranks as one of the best two fish and chips experiences...
