It’s been so incredibly difficult finding good fish and chips until someone recommended The Boat Shed in Scarborough. And it was everything I have been dreaming about (And More!). We ordered the Boat Shed Box for 3 that was packed with cod fillets, calamari, prawn cutlets, sea scallops and chips. Everything was perfect. The chips had that perfect crunch on the exterior and a wonderful soft centre. The cod fillets had the right amount of crispy batter that was just thick enough to get the satisfactory crunch and not pouring with oil. The fillets were so tender and juicy and not like frozen icicles. The prawn cutlets were huge and gourmet in both taste and texture. Likewise, the scallops were massive and tasted absolutely heavenly. The entire meal was much better than many high end restaurant fare and I was not disappointed. Given the exceptional taste and quality of the meal, I think the $55 price for the whole pack is so incredibly well priced. I wish I could give them a million stars but I hope my appreciation will cover some of that distance. Just WOW! But don’t take my word for it, please find out...
Read moreAfter returning here for 11 years This place has gone from 5 stars to 0, we ordered, waited half an hour, still nothing we went up to check only to find out our docket “blew away” so then waited another 20 minutes and finally got our food The fish was greasy and so overpriced for what you got, chips were greasy and flavourless, had to pay 50 cents extra for chicken salt and a dollar extra for this tiny aioli, very un-Australian of them. The aioli didn’t even end up in the box so we had to go up and ask for it. They didn’t have any mushy peas and the gravy was awful It had the consistency and colour of molasses. The poor girl (who was a new worker) was the one that had to deal with all these problems, while the owners and experienced staff hid behind her. She was the one who apologised for the inconveniences not the owners. Very disappointing.
Used to have beautiful beer battered chips and an array of cool salts but they must have changed owners because this is not the boat...
Read morePleasantly surprised! Walked up and down the esplanade around 3pm this afternoon. Many of the little places were closing for the day. However this unassuming, plain jane and what some would call a boring atmosphere quickly turned into one of the best fish and chips we have ever had! We've had good $16 fish and chips and we have had really bad $30 fish and chips. We ordered the fish basket for 2 and we were amazed with the food that came out. Beautifully presented, 4 pieces of fish that was moist and tasty in a light batter. Beer battered chips (plenty of), calamari rings (real calamari), corn on the cob (different), tartare sauce (a good size container) and coleslaw (yes it could have been better if it had dressing?) and lemon wedges. For $33 including a bottle of OJ and Water it was what we consider to be good value. Some of the nicest fish and chips we have had ever. Definitely will go back here again! And recommend to...
