The Flames Seafood & Modern Indian – Scarborough, QLD
What a delightful culinary experience by the sea! Nestled along the scenic Scarborough waterfront, The Flames offers a unique blend of traditional Indian flavours and classic Aussie seafood favourites – all under one vibrant roof.
From the moment we walked in, the warm, welcoming staff and the relaxed coastal ambiance set the tone for an unforgettable meal. The menu is a fusion dream – whether you’re craving fiery Punjabi curries, crisp battered fish, or something a little adventurous like beetroot tikki or chicken tikka tacos, there’s truly something for everyone.
We tried a mix of Indian small plates and seafood mains – and every bite delivered. The Treasures of the Sea seafood curry was packed with flavour and fresh ingredient.
What really stood out was their ability to cater to diverse palates. Some of our group preferred mild, while others asked for extra heat – and the kitchen delivered every dish to perfection. Portions were generous, prices fair, and the presentation was top-notch.
Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Despite a full house, the staff were efficient, helpful, and happy to explain the menu. A small corkage fee was no issue – we appreciated being able to enjoy our own wine with the meal.
The Flames is family-friendly, beautifully located, and ideal for casual get-togethers, date nights, or even solo brunches with a view. With their wide variety of options – including loaded fries, Indian breakfast dishes, waffles, and seafood baskets – it’s one of those rare places where everyone leaves happy.
💬 Final Verdict: A must-visit in Scarborough! Whether you’re in the mood for rich Indian curries or laid-back Aussie seafood, The Flames blends the best of both worlds with quality, creativity, and heart. Highly recommended – and we’ll...
Read moreThis is a hard one to write. We've had takeaway - twice. Both through menu-log. First time was ok - about 30 minutes; but the second shocking - re delivery. We think our order was lost (see below) - ordered at just after 5.15pm - arrived just before 8pm after a few calls. No reason given. So - may be better to pick-up - and no delivery charge. Yes - we were charged for waiting nearly 3 hours !
We had 4 different curries this time - one the first time. Dishes did arrive hot. Although tasty, we had trouble tasting any real difference between them. Madras and Korma chicken seemed very similar (slight colour difference) - certainly no real spice/curry taste difference. AND - no "heat" at all. Naans were good. Fish was nice. Chicken was tender.
For the price I would expect more. To me - korma and madras are very different curries.
All up nearly $100. Next time I think we'll go Thai. I know the restaurant isn't responsible for the delivery by menu-log BUT they do use them thus they carry some responsibility.
Overall disappointing as we love Indian and eat it regularly in the city when we are there. I've given a 3 but I must be feeling generous. :)
Maybe next time might be different - if we do go back.
(We noted on our order it said 7pm. THIS was when we rang to complain about the time taken for delivery. Thus we believe our order was "lost". We made our order at approximately 5.15pm. No apologies or...
Read moreWent there yesterday for an early dinner, won't go back. My wife and I thought took our son to the park across the road and thought it would be nice to have some fish and Chips. Last time we came, we ordered from Marvelous which is next door to Flames and it was good but not great. So we decided to give The Flames a go. Despite being advertised as a seafood and modern Indian restaurant, there was absolutely no menu boards or paper menus actually advertising what seafood they sold. I asked the young girl at the counter and she listed off the choices of fish. I wanted a fish and chip pack, with fish chips, calamari etc, but they only sold each item individually. Despite this I ordered anyway. I was the only customer in the shop at the time. Even though I was the only customer, the food took half an hour to finally be ready. I then took it across the road to eat and was immediately super disappointed as soon as I opened the bag. The fish, chips and calamari were well and truly overcooked, the calamari was flavorless with a rubbery texture and there was only a small amount of chips. There was also no napkins provided. Definitely not worth the money spent or the time spent waiting. There are plenty of good fish and chip shops around Scarborough, unfortunately this isn't...
