Ordered oysters kilpatrick and the tiger prawns and scallop pasta. Oysters came out first (even though i asked for them to come with main). I'm glad they did though, because they were absolutely disgusting. Seemed like shredded ham on top and microwaved to finish. I refunded the lot because i didn't trust the rest after that. Ordered a chicken parmi to be safe after that and it was pretty good, albiet very tight with the sides. I did notice that not a single person at our table; nor the one next us received our meals at the same time. People had finished meals whilst others still waited. Pretty bad experience all round and not cheap prices.

I recommend you don’t get the seafood here the calamari was over cooked it was like trying to eat a zip tie (hard plastic) half the lights didn’t work, half the fridges were off line and no mid strength beer on tap my 2 guests said there meals were ok not good.

The only remaing pub on Grey St, the grand looks vastly different than I remember. The meals are a few notches above the usual pub grub standard, not gastro pub level put pretty damn decent. The steak was very nice and the fish and chips looked great.

I fear the GC is going the route of the Botanical. Reserved a table for two which was placed immediately behind a very large group of some 20 people who thought it ok to remove one of the chairs and have their young child fondle all the cutlery on the table as we observed from the table we had to move to (dodged a bit of a bullet there!) The unruly children, I will say no more. At the outset I want to say we used to recommend GC as their steaks were fabulous and had the best grilled salmon I’ve ever had there but no longer? Ordered nachos - $18 for a plate of corn chips with a bit of cheese scattered here and there and some on the top grilled, a slip of salsa and guacamole and sour cream on the side - so dry and just eating corn chips, left over half of it. Partner had the southern chicken burger which he said was ok - but - the chicken was a small piece maybe three times the size of a chicken tender and was very dry. With a handful of chips, $23!! You pay extra for other sides. Long wait for meals - but - three large groups wouldn’t have helped, didn’t see the normal chef there, she’s very, very good. Not easy to leave a negative review like this for a Hamilton staple but our latest experience was nothing like...

Disappointing Experience with Steak Order

A few days ago, I was craving steak and called this place to ask if I could order over the phone and pay when I picked it up. The person said no—you have to come in, which is fair enough.

When I arrived, I asked if I could have peri peri seasoning on the fries, and was told no, they’re already prepared. That’s fine. I asked if I could have the mushroom sauce on the side, and was told yes.

After paying around $43, I waited about 15–20 minutes to pick up my meal. The staff brought the steak on a plate with the takeaway container on the side, stating they couldn’t put the meal in the container. This was confusing and inconvenient.

At home, the mushroom sauce tasted awful — old and disgusting. Overall, the meal was a waste of money, and I didn’t enjoy it at all. Unfortunately, I won’t...

Always dine at the Central when I come home, been there twice in the last 2 weeks and went tonight but never again. Not a busy night and 7 of us ordered food at 7 pm. 2 chicken schnitzels came out shortly afterwards, then 3 steaks came out half an hour or so later, 2 of which were wrong. They were sent back and the "proper" meals came out. Steaks were cold and the meals were still wrong. $42 for the meal and couldn't get it right. The last 2 meals came out about another 40 minutes later and they were wrong also but ate them anyway as it was nearly 9pm. Went to the bar to order some drinks. Twice the attendant forgot the beer with both orders on 2 separate occasions. Been frequenting this pub off and on for 45 years. Worst service I've...
