I went for a lunchtime walk to this restaurant with my work colleagues who thought it would be a fun idea to try out all the restaurants on the main road in Moonah between Amy and Bromby Streets [Unfortunately this means I miss out on eating lunch at JM Cake as part of this fortnightly event]. We had to get take-away though because we couldn’t all fit in the small dining room. I ate Mussaman beef curry, which according to Wikipedia is “a fusion dish (using) ingredients popular among Muslim traders from Persia, the Indian subcontinent, and the Malay Archipelago”. As I walked back to work with lunch I imagined I was sailing a Dhow through the Gulf of Thailand, the hold full of textiles and spices, ready for a tasty feed when we made it to port. My colleagues may have wondered why I was muttering nautical phrases to myself and shading my eyes as I stared across the waves but they probably thought this was my normal behavior. As my workplace came into sight I thought “O Seeker, this world is like a wave. God’s condition is like the sea”. You might imagine that it would be difficult for any meal to live up to my expectations but as this is my usual mental state you can probably discount it as affecting this review. I didn’t ask for rice, which was a mistake because the meal was very liquid, but thanks to Quentin Stormer’s kindness (not his real name - I strive to protect people’s anonymity - Quentin, you know who you are) and the generous portion of rice served up to him, I had more than enough. The food was nice and plentiful, service was friendly and efficient, I would eat there again. They did use a plastic takeaway container bag for each person though which ruined my vision of the prow of my ship cutting through the foaming waves of the 15th century trade routes, as I couldn’t help but imagine a lot of plastic floating about...
Read moreNara Thai had been recommended to me to try as my fondness for Thai food is forever growing. So it was arrange for a group of us to meet up.
Parking is easy to find which is very handy and being on the main strip of Moonah makes finding it no problem at all.
I was one of the first to turn up (as I wanted to thoroughly check out the menu) and was greeted by a very friendly staff member. It wasn't long till the rest of them turned up and I had already made my mind up of what I was going to have.
If you're not sure of what to start out with I would recommend the mixed entree ($15) which had sampler of each (Thai Fish Cake, Crispy Chicken, Satay Chicken Skewer and a couple of other samples on a salad). I didn't feel like meat for my main this time around so went with Pineapple Fried Rice ($19) which was a bigger portion than I'd expected. All of the food was very tasty and it was followed up with a couple of Chang beers just to keep it all Thai. All up it came to about $45 which was great value for the amount I receive.
The place was very clean with a nice atmosphere and very...
Read moreWe visited Hobart during the Christmas of 2022 and were in Tasmania for a week. During that week, we ate at various restaurants and cafes. Nara Thai was our favourite of all the places. Prices are decent and more importantly, the food delicious and flavourful. We walked out of the restaurant very satisfied. Food-wise, we ordered the spring rolls, which were crispy. We also ordered the boat noodles, which had an aromatic broth and plenty of ingredients. The star however, has to be the pad thai, which came with 6 medium prawns (there are various options, and we chose seafood). Portions for both noodles were large and more than enough for two. We also liked the fact that they were very generous with the vegetables, which made the meal much more balanced. The only criticism is that the spring rolls could be slightly bigger. Finally, a big thank you to Kenneth who was very patient and accommodating. A friendly face makes a lot of difference to a dining experience, and Kenneth certainly...
