FOOD POISONING!!!!

Update: The owner tracked our social media and saw that straight away after we had breakfast at the cafe , we enjoyed the weather in Thredbo mentioning my 1 year old son and my husband.

I don’t think it’s a good approach to treat your customers this way, track social media especially because we had to rush home as we were so sick!!

THANK YOU that we had a few hours to enjoy the snow before spending the whole day at home!

The owner asked me if she refunds money for the breakfast can I remove this review?

I think she should keep the money but I prefer potential customers to know what you should expect from this business.

My husband, our little one and myself had breakfast for the takeaway on Sunday the 2nd of July at the cafe. We had almond croissant, toasty and 2 oat coffees. After 4 h we had pretty bad food poisoning and had to spend the whole day at home not being able to enjoy the snow.

Emailed the Birchwood team to let them know that we had food poisoning as it was the only place we visited in Jindabyne in our first day there.

I suppose that it was the owner who responded to me saying that it’s not possible for us to have food poisoning after their breakfast and they currently have gasto outbreak in Jindabyne.

I kindly asked for a full refund for our breakfast but no reply since then. Don’t think that you should treat the customers this way and be 100% sure that you’re right

DON’T GO...

Like a few of our favourites, Birchwood is one of those places we’ve been to countless times and only just realised we’ve never left a review—time to fix that.

We usually visit in spring, summer, and autumn, avoiding the winter hustle and bustle, but no matter the season, Birchwood is always popular.

It’s our go-to for breakfast and brunch, though we’ve had lunch here as well. The meals are consistently high quality, and the atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.

This Visit: • Turkish Eggs – Normally, Birchwood nails the balance of flavours, and this was another delicious dish, though I found there was a little too much baba ghanoush for my taste. Still very enjoyable. • Mexican Mushroom Chilaquiles – Looked great on the plate, but the egg was stacked directly on the tortilla chips, making them a little soggy. Plenty of black beans and mushrooms in the mix. I didn’t try it myself, but it was a generous portion. • Chilli Scrambled Eggs (previous day) – This is a standout dish, one of our favourites. On this visit it felt a little below the usual high standard—maybe just an off day or a different chef.

As always, the coffee was fantastic, the vibe was chilled, and the staff friendly.

Even though this visit wasn’t quite as spot-on as usual, Birchwood remains a favourite and a place we’ll always...

My partner and I visited this place today and our experience was horrible to say the least. We got really bad vibes from the waitresses and got a lot of attitude. We felt like we were not welcomed and got forced smiles from the wait staff. We ordered at 11:20 however the waitress made us wait to order our food until exactly 11:30 because it from another part of the menu. Another waitress would stomp over to the ipad to place orders and place her dirty sneakers on the shelf against the clean cutlery- very unhygienic. The wait staff looked angry all the time and we believe the wait staff urgently require training in how to treat customers in a better way. We understand wait staff are often overworked and under appreciated, however rudeness and superiority complexes dont develop through this alone. Other than that, the interior decor was nice and the food was ok. Hopefully management will have a chat to their wait staff as if this continues to occur, I imagine people will not frequent the establishment any longer. We both left feeling unwelcome and dissatisfied and saddened by the experience and regret having given our...

[Below paragraph six years ago. Followup in second paragraph] I first went here a week ago for coffee and a snack, and today went back for a breakfast. The coffee was as excellent as the first time, and the breakfast was pretty smashing - Avocado on toast with a bunch of other stuff that might've sounded like too much going on but was instead just perfect. The decor's neat and fresh, the staff are friendly and helpful, and I'm pretty sure this might become our weekly pre-shopping stop. Tops place - give it a go. Long term follow-up... 6 years later I've nothing to add. The quality has stayed as high as it started, and it's still the place for me in town for excellent (and ever-changing) food, always surprising me with new flavours. Even the muffins are different to everywhere else (light in sponge, densities of flavours - chocolate, berries - throughout).

Oh my sweet lord! This place is a hidden heaven! After a hard week camping and climbing the nearby Mt Kosciuszko, this meal was well deserved, and I couldn't be more pleased. The service was impeccable, the food was divine and the atmosphere, as I mentioned; heavenly - even down to the music being at the perfect volume. Compared to the camp food this meal was flawless, and even compared to other cafés and restaurants, this is a worthwhile visit. The meal I had, as seen in the photographs, is the "veg and eggies". Man, what a combination of flavours! Vegan options very good as well, most meals can be made vegan by the friendly and welcoming staff. I will definitely be coming here again when I return to this beautiful town.
