I would have loved to give this place 5 stars. The setting is cool ā cozy coffee, a warm fire pit, and one of the staff members was genuinely kind and welcoming. It felt like the perfect little stop in charming Kangaroo Valley to walk in with my 2 babies.
But unfortunately, not all staff reflect that same warmth When I asked if they had any gluten-free banana bread or other gluten-free options, the staff member wearing glasses replied: āYou can eat cardboard ā thatās gluten free.ā I was honestly speechless. Gluten-free eating is not a trend or a joke. I follow a gluten-free diet for health reasons, not by choice, and that comment felt incredibly dismissive, hurtful, cruel, and completely out of line.
When I later mentioned how upsetting it was to her colleague (the lovely one), the staff member with glasses overheard and said it was ājust a jokeā ā and laughed out loud about it. But living with dietary restrictions isnāt a joke ā itās something many of us manage every single day, often quietly and with great effort.
I actually feel sorry for her. She really should take the time to educate herself ā avoiding gluten doesnāt mean someone is doomed to eat cardboard. If she personally enjoys chewing inedible items like cardboard, I respect that, some people do have peculiar offbeat craving ā but itās certainly not my case.
Her words reflected not only a lack of education, but a lack of ethical standards and moral principles: respect, care, empathy and professionalism.
I truly hope the community doesnāt accept this kind of behaviour in their local coffee shop. Itās unacceptable ā and completely out of step with the warmth and care that I thought make Kangaroo Valley so special.
If you visit this coffe shop, be aware of the unrespectul staff member with glasses.
And to the cafƩ owners: be aware of how your staff member truly treat your customers. I hope your future team truly reflects the values of your cozy cafƩ, respect, empathy, and genuine care for every guest who walks...

We recently holidayed in Kangaroo Valley and drove past KV Coffee Co every dayā¦on the last day we decided to check it out and our biggest regret is that we didnāt go sooner! They do simple things so well. The best coffee weāve had in years, toasted banana bread and baby chinos for the kids, wrapped up in service with a smile. Weāre going to the South Coast next month and will go out of our way just to visit KV...
