This place has the potential to be great. Unfortunately classic mistakes were made: Seafood platter for 2$ $73 Hot chips mixed with leftover cold chips Octopus tough... Overcooked Teriyaki Scallops luke warm but flavour was good. Probably would have been great if hot out of the pan. Lime and pepper fried squid OK - something not quite right with batter. Oysters Kilpatrick best of the platter for 2 in conjunction with prawn skewers (very nice) Crumbed Flathead-sadly nothing to write home about (San Remo used to have the best flathead in victoria but rarely have it on the menu now) "fresh prawns" chewy, not fresh, probably thawed. No flavor except salt. Plenty of food. Definitely filled 2 adults appetite. A lot of the issues can be fixed with a good chef taking the reigns and leading with excellence. I wish you...

Best views for lunch in town by far... Great staff who were all clearly and visably distressed. No wonder.

We had to wait 1.5 hours for lunch fish and chip orders. This was beyond a joke. No notice of delays or appolgise just endless guessing games of had they missed our order. Nope every customer was in the same boat. And that wait is what runined the whole experiece.

Worse still was that after the wait my flake was not bad but my wives flathead tails was tastless. We love flathead.....and who would every imgaine that right next to the fishing co-op that you would be served up somthing like a frozen pre-packed fish meal from the likes of Aldi.

You want fish and chips for lunch go to the local fish and chips shop on the main street.

You want a great view and two hours to kill with some...

Stopped by on weekday for lunch. It was not very busy which was a good thing. We initially wanted to order takeaway but the restaurant has refused to wrap Seafood Platter as takeaway due to the presentation issue. So we reluctantly dined in. To be honest with you, the presentation was not that great anyway when they brought the platter out. It is on the pricier side with $54 for Seafood Platter for two but the portion was quite small compared to the price charged and other places that we have been to. Calamari rings were over fried that turned dark brown in colour (photo below). Prawns did not taste fresh but rather rock hard and quite salty. I have never tasted prawns this bad in my life and I am a big fan of seafood. Overall food was a let down but the view was great and service was alright....

Numerous reviews already confirm what we experienced. A really terrible meal. We like to give everyone a chance at redemption, and this wasn't a difficult meal. Fish and chips. For $25 you would expect a reasonable meal. We got a single heavily battered piece of fish on a plate of chips and coleslaw. It was difficult to even get to the microscopic sample of fish through the thick oily batter. This was simply awful. There were no better comments for the dim Sims or potato cakes. Oily, thickly battered wafer thin slices of potato, and dim Sims swimming in oil that were raw inside. All previous negative reviews were 100% spot on. So in summary, expensive, oily, small, yucky, ...ahh.. just don't go. Whatever happened to Wild Catch on the Esplanade, they had delicious lightly battered fish.

Wow! This place is exactly what Lakes was crying out for. Went in for a coffee with my wife and it was lovely. The staff were engaging and nice. While we sat, the staff called us over to look at the dolphins playing in the water. Incredible experience. A couple of days later and I came across a post on a dim sim group about how good the dimmies are at this cafe. We got some takeaway and had them at the Airbnb. As a Dim Sim aficionado, let me tell you that these dimmies are up there with the best! I'm not sure if they make them there, but they're delicious. Worth the 4hr drive just for the dimmies I reckon. Would be great if it had a liquor licence and we could enjoy a bevo, but I'm sure that'll come one day. If you're in Lakes, don't miss this joint. A+
