The Golden Elephant Thai Cuisine — Restaurant in Laurieton

We eat Thai food regularly, both in Australia and abroad. We love the freshness of authentic Thai food. The food at this restaurant was the worst we've ever had. The meals we received weren't the same as what we ordered from their menu and looked nothing like the picture.

Unfortuately when the food arriived it not only looked nothing like the picture, it was also very bland and seemed like they were using frozen supermarket vegetables.

We ordered 2 servings of chicken fried rice in half a pineapple. When we recieved the meal there was no half a pineapple with rice inside, hardly any chicken at all and instead of having fresh prawns, it had deep fried, battered prawns and only a coupe of pineapple pieces (like from a can of pineapple). It was also supposed to come with roasted cashew nuts, which were absent from the meal.

When we complained we got nothing but excuses from the staff. Excuses included that the menu hasn't changed in 20 years and the new owners have only been there for 2 years. That they haven't had time to update their menu and were too busy to go to supermarket to buy fresh pineapples. Saying that every customer get served the same, which is ridiculous.

We felt very dissatisfied and ripped off with having to pay $19 each for a plate of this unappetising, ordinary food and if the menu is different we should have been told when we were placing our orders! In our opinion we seriously recommend avoiding this place and keeping your money and going...

I found the service staff extremely lacking in social skills and people skills. The food was a 2/10 and that's being generous.The peanut sauce was too thick and tasted like it was from a jar of smooth peanut butter and warmed up. The Chefs treatment of us, in the one interaction we had with her was very unprofessional and downright rude!! We will not be returning anytime soon and if asked by friends or family about places to eat delicious food in Laurieton,I will tell them how we were treated and advise them to read this review,I will also tell them about the Chinese restaurant in the main st of Laurieton,with friendly staff and delicious food,that is exactly what you see on the menu. I Ordered the Mega Pad Thai and my sister ordered the Pineapple fried rice. Unfortunately the Pad Thai was not very nice. Lacked any real flavour, was very gluggy and pretty much inedible. Came with BBQ Pork which was very dry and tasteless. My sister didn’t fare much better with her rice dish which was gluggy and also lacked flavour. The Waitress forgot to bring our drinks out and had to be reminded to get them and when she did she just plonked 4 cans down in front of us. No apology, no glasses or straws. My wife ordered a veggie stir fry dish with rice which she enjoyed but had eaten half of it before her steamed rice came out.(Which the waitress had also forgotten about).
