I've never written a bad review before, but I hope this brings some kind of awareness to the owner.
I won't be going here again unfortunately. I used to stop in here as I thought the owner was nice and wanted to support local business. I was catching up with a friend on Saturday and we had purchased an acai bowl from Wyld Organics. As there was no other seating available and it was a hot day, we decided we should go sit at 'Dine With Joy' to eat it before it melts. I told my friend that the owner is quite nice. To be appreciative of the seating, we purchased some drinks from there prior to sitting down.
As I went to sit down, the owner approached us (I thought she was coming to say hello as we have spoken previously), but proceeded to tell us that they don't allow people to eat outside food at their (outside) tables, as people tend to leave a mess and rubbish. She even pointed to their windows saying that there are signs about this. She started saying, as a once-off, we could eat our bowls there. I politely said "that's okay, we'll just go" where she then said "you can finish your drinks, but we'll have to take the acai bowls off you."
Bear in mind, she's talking to two women in their late 20s (26 and 27). Imagine speaking to grown, professional women like they are children? It's very disappointing to see this behaviour, especially coming from the owner! Every other time I have seen her, she has been really lovely. So for her to walk up to us in a serious manner and speak to us that way was very shocking.
Have never had this happen anywhere else. We deliberately purchase drinks to be courteous and nothing was mentioned at the counter where we said "Just drinks please, we have these"(the acai bowls). There were a few people eating there, so we didn't want to cause a scene and ruin the atmosphere for people and their kids. We just won't come back. Everyone I've spoken to said this is ridiculous. This is the perfect way to ruin your reputation and customer retention. I sincerely hope the owner changes their policy, as this is surely impacting their business. Based off their reviews, this has happened before and still hasn't changed.
I understand reading these reviews as the owner can be stressful, but the way you treated us was also...

Every-time I visit DWJ it always feels like your walking into your mama’s kitchen - #yktr Mama’s kitchen, Mama’s rules! - no sauce on all her curry pies🥴❤️💯

Read moreMy partner bought one pie from here the other day, as it was our first time trying this place (clever thing to do right? If you’ve never tried food from a place before, you buy something small to start off with). The person working saw we were together and that I had an açai bowl in hand, which was for my 1year old, which was the only thing she was able to eat from this set of shops. The person working asked how much the açai bowl was, to which he told her. Because this açai bowl was more than what he was buying in this store, we were told we weren’t able to sit outside on their table and chairs. She also mentioned, it’s because people only buy something small from their store just to sit down and use their chairs etc and because an açai bowl is a messy clean up? The way it sounded was, if we had bought more from this store, we would of been able to sit down and use the chairs, then the hassle of cleaning up a mess would be worth it. Mind you, I would of been feeding my child, not allowing her to make an absolute mess. So if my partner had bought a pie without us there with the açai bowl he would of been able to sit down and eat, but because we were there with a more expensive product from the store next door, we weren’t allowed to. This encounter has definitely put me off this place and I will never be back again due to this. I won’t be recommending this pace to anyone....
