When we arrived we were seated near the toilets with a nice comfortable bench seat but a view of the actual toilet as the door to the bathroom was open the entire time. They have a gorgeous little gelato station, but we were put off getting any, as again it was parked right next to the open toilet! I ordered an iced mocha and was presented with coffee flavored milk over ice in a water glass. Looking over at the next table a young child had what looked like a chocolate milkshake with the look of what I was expecting from a “iced mocha” in a nice glass with chocolate syrup. So I asked the waiter if I could have a “nice iced mocha with ice cream” they looked confused- but went away and came back with a thick shake type mocha- much better with a small squirt of fresh cream on top… no chocolate syrup swirl in the nice glass but I didn’t mind that as it looked ice-creamy now. But as the waiter served me, they said “this is a one-off, as we don’t usually make them like this or put cream on them” looking like they were telling me off- my mum who was dining with me looked at me like “ouch!” I’m sorry to have bothered them! We waited over 30 minutes for our food but when it finally arrived it was nice. As we chatted through our meal another waiter came and asked if we were done - our plates were still quite full - and we had no signs of being finished… so we felt pressured to finish. So although it was a nice meal, and my “special desert type” drink was eventually made to my expectations. The different waiters were all bored, snarky and inattentive. The person behind the bar who took my money, asked if our meals and drinks were okay, and was bright and bubbly though, so there we’re definitely highlights along with the lowlights. Also although my mum asked for a “house white wine” and had 2 glasses, she was served $14 glasses when the cheapest wine on the list was $9.5 a glass, with $14 being the most expensive. Not a big thing, but unusual when asking for “just the house wine”. We probably...
Read moreI visited Frankie's Place for the first-time last Sunday for lunch with my husband and the whole experience was great. Loved the way the place looks and feels, was watching Tony who showed that he had his finger on the pulse the whole time. Fantastic Sunday Arvo entertainer who had the full attention of a couple of kids, providing their parents with a short break and absolutely no complaints with the food or service.
We were greeted on arrival with a warm smile and very quick service. Our meals came out shortly afterwards and they were certainly generous. Steak for my date and the chicken schnitzel for me. Huge plates, hard to get through the size but was absolutely delicious.
For dessert, I was treated to a gelato on the house as I had expressed the opinion that real gelato is hard to find and, in most cases, it's just glorified ice-cream. Tony assured me that it was the real deal and asked if I wanted to try. I did, I ate, it was very good. A welcomed gesture and much appreciated.
We left very happy with all aspects of our experience, but I was wondering if it was just luck. I decided to test the theory and did a repeat visit last night with one of my daughters who spent enough of her own time in the hospitality (restaurant) industry. This time I went with the carbonara with penne and cheesy garlic bread. Daughter had the parmy. Both meals were terrific, and I would absolutely order the carbonara again.
The menu is not over complicated but that's not always an issue. Restaurants should concentrate on a few things they do well rather than over filling the menu options and doing them badly.
I am a notoriously fussy eater but there is enough at Frankie's Place to keep me happy. Its about time we started getting some decent food options again in Logan.
Well done to Tony and the team at Frankie's. If you keep this up, you will be here for a long time to come.
As for everyone else, make the trip. I am sure you wont be disappointed. I will...
Read moreWe went here with our 8yr old and our baby. When we ordered it was 5:30 and not busy, we ordered the kids meal first and garlic bread, they were great, mini pizza is quite mini but all good. We ordered our mains at 5:35, half an hour past and nothing, my husband asked and the guy eventually 5mins later came back and said "I'm so sorry, I ordered it on the tablet but for some reason it didn't go to the kitchen, it'll be out in a second", nearly 15minutes later we got our meal (nearly 50mins in total waiting for our mains), they gave us complimentary garlic bread which is nice but we had already eaten garlic bread. My husband got the vegetarian pizza which was soggy but he reluctantly ate anyway. I got the chicken gnocchi which was extremely salty and then I found a big chunk of bone in it, called the lady over, she took it to the chef, they came back, offered to remake the meal but also take it off the bill which was great service but I really didn't want to have to try and eat a whole nother bowl of a salty dish, so I declined the remake and just cautiously ate some more, my husband tried to eat some but also found it far too salty. The kids dinner comes with a free ice-cream which we had asked for while waiting for our meals and the lady didn't get it, so 10-15mins later when we asked again it got brought out in less than a minute. When my husband went to pay, the lady took the gnocchi of the bill but then went to charge for the kids meal despite it being kids eat free with a main (my husband's pizza) but thankfully my husband had calculated how much it would cost beforehand so had it corrected. I don't know if we were just unlucky or if it was because we were a family but we looked around and no one else seemed to be having any issues with their prompt service or waiting for meals. We won't be returning, the people that served us were nice but that many mistakes were ridiculous and the food really wasn't great, except the...
