Đại Lộc Quán: A Mixed Bag of Vietnamese Flavours in Sunshine Đại Lộc Quán, located on Hampshire Road in Sunshine, offers a taste of Northern Vietnamese cuisine. While my dining experience had some ups and downs, I left with a mixed impression. The Food: I ordered the popular Bun Thit Nuong Cha Nem (vermicelli noodles with grilled pork and spring rolls). The dish was generally tasty, with well-cooked noodles and flavorful pork. However, I was a bit disappointed that the charcoal grill flavour, which I was really hoping for, wasn't as pronounced as I'd expected. It lacked that smoky depth that truly elevates this dish. The spring rolls, while reminiscent of those I've enjoyed in Vietnam, were unfortunately quite greasy. While this might be authentic, it did detract from the overall enjoyment. The Service: Beyond the food, the service also left something to be desired. The owner/manager seemed preoccupied, spending more time eating and on her phone than attending to customers. It took a noticeable five minutes just to get her attention, which was frustrating. Basic foodservice principles, like not eating in front of customers and minimising phone use while on duty, seemed to be overlooked. The Good: Despite the shortcomings, there were some positive aspects to my visit. Đại Lộc Quán supports the community by donating meals to the less fortunate, which is commendable. I will visit again and try some other dishes, and hopefully have a better...
Read moreWe tried this restaurant once long time before but wasnt really impressed. We were very hesitant to try out this place again after reading all the reviews here but decided to give it another go since they opended again after the renovation.
There are many reviews re bad services but with our experience recently, the service was good and I have nothing to complaint about it. The interior design is better than before too, nice and clean.
We ordered crab meat with brown flat noodle and beef and fermented green cabbage stir fried rice. They were both very tasty and nice. Quite good quality food for the price. We were both quite surprised with the food and wondering why the review is quite low. At that time, I was sure to give a 5 stars review, otherwise, it is a bit unfair for the restaurant with this kind of good food but low review like this. Until...we had the stomachache. I had the stomachache toward the 2nd half of the meal when I hadnt even finished them yet. And my hubby got the stomachache around 10 mins after finishing the meal with diarrhea too. It was such a shame that this happened though. Otherwise, it would have been a good experience with this place.
Overall, mixed feeling re this experience. Everything was great except for the...
Read moreI came here yesterday after seeing an IG review about delicious Northern Vietnamese cuisine and some special dishes they had. We ordered their house specialities to share:
#1 Banh Da Cua Hai Pong (a crab and brown noodle soup with delicious meatballs) #4 Bun Cha (deconstructed Vietnamese cold noodle salad with yummy meat cuts)
The food was incredible! So yummy and different from the usual pho or banh cuon. So good to be exposed to new yummy dishes from diff parts of Vietnam.
But what was even better, was the incredible service the lady provided as I entered all flusterred with a screaming toddler! She talked to him, gave him lollies, didn’t mind that I was a mess (spilling water on the table and floors, she mopped and wiped straightaway) and even offered a free small bowl of rice for my son. Plus on the way out, she gave him some biscuits too!
Honestly - we need more people in hospo like her, that goes beyond the food, but looks after customers and what they need at the time. Thank you!! I’m forever grateful and will be returning to such a...
