I don't know why it ever took me so long to try it here. It's really good. I cheated and looked at the menu online ahead of time, and it sounded so delish, and didn't disappoint. It's warm and cozy inside, with nice decor and lots of tealights to give it a nice atmosphere (along with the Afghani music). The waiter was quick to greet us and give us the menus, and after ordering, the food came out in good time and was all cooked the way we asked for, and the right modifications were made too. The potatoes were delicious, and thankfully someone else at the table had bread I could steal to help mop up some sauce. The chicken kebabs were beautiful and tender and full of lovely flavour. They came with bread and salad. I don't think there's anything I could fault as it was just so morish. I couldn't finish everything, therefore I didn't stuff myself with dessert, even though I wanted to, but from what we all ate, we all agreed we'd come back again for sure. Parking can be a tiny bit of a pain in the you-know-where, but otherwise, it's a restaurant that I'd definitely recommend to anyone who loves Indian and/or Nepalese food, but wants a slight change in flavour. It's very good, and can't wait to try it again.

Came here tonight and was just blown away by the experience, what a hidden gem in Camberwell! The service was brilliant. Our waiter pasha was a very polite and friendly young gentleman who took our order quickly and our food came out in a reasonable time. The food was fresh, visually pleasing and most importantly delicious!! The kebabs were juicy and tender. My favourite dish was the bolini bread which was an interesting mix of bread and potato. The baklava and ferni were the perfect dessert to finish the meal. Can’t recommend this place enough!! I can’t wait to come back with more friends to share the experience. Thanks for the memorable night!!

We went to Afghan Village Restaurant for dinner and got a bit of everything; lamb korma, chicken khandahari, kofta meat balls, some grills & entrees (as part of the Special Banquet - 4 entrees, 4 mains, desserts & a hot drink @68pp). The portions were not big, and I thought a lot of the dishes were tomato heavy so they had very similar flavour profiles, but it could just be an Afghani thing. I did enjoy the meat balls and the mixed grills (and the flavourful Kabuli Palau rice that came with the kormas), as well as Firnee which was a delectable dessert of rose water flavoured custard. Service was quick, staff members were very friendly.

Less than average food, worst service I have seen for ages.

Edit after Owner response: If you just had courage to admit your mistakes rather than pointing at the customer being the trouble. Simple facts:

  1. we were served by a new waitress, she took the order and messed it up. Instead of acknowledging the error she lied about what the two of us said in front of us.

  2. We did not eat any of the wrong dish as claimed by the owner. The new dish was the same but re-purposed with lamb meat. Which definitely points towards the freshness of the dishes.

The food was poor quality and without taste. The rice was good, but the curry was not worth the price.

  1. When we ordered the traditional banquet priced at $58pp, we were told we had to choose a vegetarian dish although it says 3 mains. We asked for non-vegetarian and stated we're happy to pay the delta price which was 8 dollars. This was the dish which was messed up by the waitress. Now, when things were messed up by the waitress, another guy came and asked us three times if we wanted it replaced. He said, it will be the same just with lamb. We explained that is what we ordered. We don't want two chicken curries. Then he told us, it won't be the 8 dollar difference as explained in the owners response. He asked us to pay the special banquet price which was $68pp. Now the crazy fact, if we were to buy the dish we ordered separately, it would have been $8 more...the waiter asked us to pay $20 more which was $10 per person as traditional banquet got upgraded to special banquet. Guess what, the special banquet includes 4 mains and we still got 3 but we paid full price.

By the way check the website or menu ...it says nothing about what mains you can pick. You get the surprise when you order.

I didn't want to go into details but the response from the owner and trying to justify the bad service is just not right. I hope others will get better service next time. I understand things get messed up but have the courage to acknowledge it and don't point on your customers. You just lost a second chance.... Good luck learning customer...

Just had another fantastic meal at this restaurant again. The service is just so friendly and so very helpful as we had one of our guests who couldn't have onions, and they did everything to accommodate her so she had a great experience dining here. The entrees were just superb ,so much flavours...the mixed entre is the way to go.Kebab meals tasted so good. For mains the lamb korma and the chicken khandahari, deserts, coffee all very good. The restaurant was full ,the vibe magic, this is one of those restaurants you just must dine at.

Went for dinner here and had one the best night out for a long time. A very friendly greating as we came through the door ,and was shown to our table. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly all night which made the dining experience so memorable. The decor is just so relaxing and appropriate for this Afghan Restaurant. Even the music is authentic. The menu is exciting and hard to choose from which delightful dish to have .The wine list is also not overpriced. We absolutely enjoyed our choices of the mixed entree and my choice of the mixed grill (this is usually for 2 or more people)but I felt a little peckish this night. The chicken Khandahai was also excellent. Please do not forget to try the deserts ,especially the Afghani Baklava or the Turkish delight. Obviously it is well frequented by the locals ,as the restaurant was a full house. Most definitely worth the visit on...
