Axil coffee roasters Hawthorn Axil coffee roasters has turned 15 years old this year, which I feel like is fitting and finally time for a review. I have frequented their beans for use at home but never actually visited! They have many locations across Melbourne. The one I’m visiting today in Hawthorn has a very large shop front/ dining area, with outside and inside seating too. The seat choices are multitudinous with bench seats if your prefer your butt being cushioned, tables for groups or pretty high stool seating too. The decor is I would say “it’s own”. It feels snug but modern. There’s a large emphasis on hexagonal shapes and wood with walls that have a nice gradient and lighting which is perfectly soft and warming (especially at 7am in winter). Open air design (common now) which makes the place feel big and not stuffy. Starting to get busy just before 8am as you can tell it’s a popular spot for morning coffee / food for office workers. The service I would say is prompt and pretty immediate. It’s a ship that’s tightly run and you can tell that the moment you walk in. Workers are friendly and are on a mission to get you your coffee asap! From walking in, getting a seat to placing an order and then receiving my coffee was all in under 3 minutes which was almost incredible? Crazy fast. But fast doesn’t always mean good, But this time it did. I ordered my usual, a double shot mocha which if the coffee is burnt you can taste it, or if it’s over extracted the coffee becomes thin and loses its glisten. But the coffee came out in a fantastically warm cup, was smooth and most importantly tasty with silky froth on-top. (I even forgot to take a photo before my first sip!). When I got to the bottom of the cup I did get some “grainyness” from the powder in the mocha but that’s expected when you aren’t using real chocolate in it. One thing that’s worth noting is that the tables (atleast the 2 seater ones) are the most sturdy cafe table I have ever leaned on. You would have no trouble bringing a laptop in and typing away and don’t have to worry at all about the wiggle of the screen as you type your very important emails! In the department of actually purchasing their beans, there is I believe a complete range of their products. From beans, pre ground for drip, espresso, instant coffee, pods and even ready to brew coffee bags. If you are after a reliable and consistent coffee with no fuss, Axil coffee roasters is a great option out of the many out there.

AXIL COFFEE ROASTERS – The Roastery What a lovely coffee encounter Today, just before heading out to Sydney, I went to visit Miss Mook at Axil Coffee Roasters in Hawthorns. I received a warm welcome 🤗 and a great coffee suggestions: a filter coffee, a magic, and a single origin espresso. Of course I also ordered an Aussie breakfast; 🍳 eggs on toast with a sliced avocado 🥑 [you can have it crushed too]. The Colombian 🇨🇴 filter coffee was beautiful, with a lot of depth, a lively, yet well balanced acidity, and a red wine acidity and bitterness. I liked the dark fruit notes and the tamarind flavor, very unique and pleasant. The magic 🪄 came with the seasonal house 🏡 blend: the milk was brilliantly textured, super sweet and smooth all the way, and it was poured very nicely 🦢. That is what I expect from a specialty place ❤️. The coffees from Brazil 🇧🇷, Costa Rica 🇨🇷, and Guatemala 🇬🇹 cut nicely through the milk 🥛. Well done 👍🏼. The breakfast was delicious too: I especially liked the warm eggs 🥚 on the crunchy and buttery 🧈 toast. The contrast to the cooler avocado 🥑 was a great match and the fresh lemon 🍋 rounded this breakfast up perfectly. To finish my breakfast I enjoyed a single origin espresso from Guatemala 🇬🇹: El Buho [Maria Vides], washed Caturra with notes of caramel, nectarine, peach 🍑, and citrus 🍊. How much better can you start into your day. Thank you Miss Mook for the great hospitality and lovely chat. You made my day ☀️. And thank you to Anthony, Jack, and Matt for the additional espresso cupping in your training room 😉.

Awesome spot to have a brunch/lunch. We ordered: 🍽️ Zucchini, corn & haloumi fritters w/ poached egg, avocado, crispy sweet potato, spinach & tomato relish 🥘 Horseradish & chilli scramble on rye toast w/ sauerkraut cured salmon, broad beans, peas, asparagus, heirloom beetroot & charred lemon [GFO] 🥞 Red velvet pancakes w/ raspberries, black sesame ice cream, cream cheese ganache & chocolate brownie soil [V] Zucchini, corn & haloumi fritters along with Red velvet pancakes has been on their menu since Day 1 (around 10 years) and they are both worthy of the permanent place. The fritters are full of flavour and the tomato relish is superb - super refreshing as it cuts through the richness of all the elements on the plate, yummy! The Red Velvet Pancakes is also amazing and being the only dessert on the menu, it did not dissapoint at all - rightly balance without being overly sweet and the raspberries element is super fresh on the palate too. All the dishes we ordered were outstanding and we can't wait to come back again. On top of that Coffee was sensational and the service was exceptional - highly recommended place for brunch!

On a lovely sunny Saturday afternoon, we decided to visit Axil Coffee Roasters, and it turned out to be the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy some coffee. We were fortunate enough to find a table outside in the sun, and it instantly set the stage for a delightful experience.

The staff at Axil Coffee Roasters were incredibly friendly and welcoming. From the moment we entered, they greeted us with warm smiles and made us feel right at home. Their enthusiasm and knowledge about their coffee selection were impressive, and they were more than willing to answer our questions and provide recommendations.
