Poor staff and service, was overcharged.
My boyfriend and I went to the rooftop bar. The staff were slow and the table was dirty. We ordered a cappuccino and an iced mocha. When the waitress came back she had the cappuccino and a small glass of coffee with a tiny scoop of ice-cream in it. There was exactly 0 chocolate in it and it did not even mildly resemble an iced coffee!! When we went to pay, the bill included 2 x coffees for $3.50 and a $4 ice-cream. WHAT?!That was $7.50 for the cough iced coffee cough!!
Now, don't get me wrong, I am completely happy to pay $6-7 for an iced coffee at a cafe. But when I do I expect something that at least MILDLY resembles what an iced coffee is supposed to look like - coffee, ice chunks, milk, a tall glass, (sometimes ice-cream but not always). This was NOTHING like that.
I questioned the waitress about it, just saying that i did not 'realize' she would charge us for a scoop of ice cream we didn't know we were even getting. (which by the way was the size of a pea). At no point did the waitress who took our order tell me that iced coffees were not on the menu, or that she could try to make an iced coffee by adding ice-cream, or anything like that which would make the bill more understandable.
Despite this, I wasn't asking for the bill to be changed. I just wanted to let her know that its probably not good practice to charge $7.50 for a tiny coffee with a small scoop of crappy ice-cream in it. (Especially when I can get 2 scoops of cold rock 100m down the road for $5.90). Not even mentioning that she got the order wrong anyway, because it was supposed to be an iced MOCHA.
Her response? No sorry or explanation, just a dirty look and a 'that's what it going to cost, so that's it', 'how much do you usually pay for an iced coffee?'. I paid and went downstairs and before I left I decided to let someone know that they shouldn't be doing this. I went to the man behind the counter and told him that, again, its not good practice to charge $7.50 for what we got. His response? 'The ice-cream we use is expensive', and again...'how much do you usually pay for an iced mocha?... Like $6 right?'.
To this I SHOULD have responded, 'If I order bolognese and it usually costs me $20 and you bring me a bowl of spagetti-os and charge me $25, do you think that's ok?'
Moral of the story, not impressed, will NOT be going back, do not recommend. Especially when there are so many good restaurants and bars on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeyond disappointed with our first post COVID lockdown dinner at Santoni this evening. Initially super excited to be able to dine with a friend, this quickly turned to into an abundance of anxiety and confusion when we were told to go upstairs to our table. There was 32 other people dining in the area we were located at one point (first level - inside) with tables that were not spaced more than 1.5m apart. We were never given advice on where to fill out our details for contact tracing purposes which we thought was odd. As the evening rolls on and we waited over an hour for a cocktail to be made and nearly 2 hours for our food to arrive, it was made clear that Santoni was not taking both the health and safety of us as patrons as well as their staff seriously. After paying for our bill we casually asked our waitress how it worked with numbers inside as they were so busy in just the area we were seated (god knows how many people they had up on the rooftop!) to which she replied āIām not sure of the numbers, I know there is a limit but all I was told to do was rock up to work tonight with a mask on, thatās allā. What a joke. On our way out we politely asked quite possibly one of the rudest managers at the front door (couldnāt catch his name as he wasnt wear a name tag) where we should leave our details for contact tracing purposes. He then told us that it should have been done upstairs at our table and that the waitresses should have shown us where to find it (which they didnāt mention at all). We informed him of this and his response was to deflect and state how busy they were and how many new staff he had to train and that we should āgive them a breakā. Iām sorry but the priority of this establishment should be to operate in a COVID safe manner with clear restrictions and practices in place to protect the health and safety of all. Not to fill the place to the brim and ignore all rules that have been put in place to keep us all safe! Iām mortified with the reaction we were met with when simply asking where we should provide our details for contact tracing.. we as the customers shouldnāt be chasing this up. Do not come here if you wish to have a safe dining experience! I will also be lodging an offical complaint to the ACCC regarding their frank breach of COVID rules of which I have video evidence within...
