I work in Thomastown and dropped in for somthing warm and spicy to take away for lunch on a cold winter day.
The lady was very friendly and frankly speaking I had no idea what any of the menu items were plus I am not vegetarian 😀
As I'd usually do when unfamiliar with a menu, I asked for recommendations which included a couple of breads, some vegetable rice plus two sauces, one with lentils the other with chick peas. There was also what i assume was a kind of paneer style fragrant cheese (or curd?) side dish. I said I prefer on the spicy side and the flavours were all excellent.
I also took up the offer of tasting some Indian cakes/sweets while I waited for the food 😋
I enjoyed all the dishes, especially the rice, the chick pea and paneer/curd ones. The only minor criticism would be the breads.. one was a bit dry and the other (softer) one was a bit oily.
Overall very glad I dropped in to try something different to the usual pie...
Read moreI believe that the dine in experience is better than take away which I may be wrong as the overall quality is going down. Yesterday evening I bought 2 plates of chole bhature which when I started to eat with my family found all bhature to be under cooked and the flour was very raw. Further more the prices charged are more than advertised even in stores as well as online. At the time of billing I was told that the prices have increased. I can believe that prices may increase but increase of over 25% don’t justify the quality which is just 10% of what I experienced a couple of months ago. I am forced to write this review as there is no way to contact the management of the business. I don’t know if management wants to genuinely care about feedback from customers how will they contact back other than just giving their justification Anyways good luck for the business. I will consider other options before going back again...
Read moreI recently visited Baba Sweets in Thomastown and had a mixed experience. The samosa was one of the best I've had in Melbourne—fresh and not oily at all. The jalebi was perfect, with a balanced sweetness and great taste, though it was served cold. The brown cham cham was okay, but the pink one had a bit of a sour taste. The tea was pretty average and didn't meet my expectations. The mix pakoras were a bit of a letdown as they didn't contain any potato; instead, they were cauliflower coated with besan and spinach, more like gobi pakora.
They are not that expensive, which is good, but do check, as the prices on their menu are not updated.
Despite some of the downsides, I highly recommend Baba Sweets Thomastown for their...
