ORDERED: Sunday lunch 02/04/2023 ($55.00pp) 🦪 Sydney rock oyster ($6.00pp) 🍞 Wholemeal sourdough flatbread 🍆 Roasted eggplant dip 🥦 Cauliflower piccalilli 🐓 Smoked chicken rillettes

🐟 Confit Ocean trout with preserved lemon 🍚 Lentils, carrot & parsley 🥗 Salad greens with mustard dressing

🍰 Almond cake with cardamom cream

I spent $61.76 here (including card surcharge).

REVIEW: From the first set of dishes, I loved the combination of the wholemeal sourdough flatbread and the eggplant dip. The flatbread is one of the best I've ever had. It straddles the line between the perfect crunchiness, yet a sweet pillow-like softness that leaves you wanting more. A smattering of salt is ebbed by the smooth creaminess of the eggplant dip. ❎️ Chicken rillettes were essentially cold shredded chicken (didn't taste much smokiness), but the pickled cauliflower gave it a bit of interest.

Confit Ocean trout was as buttery and tender as I hoped. It's much better than the confit duck (french) counterparts. Lentils were an awesome accompaniment, along with the green salad and its tangy dressing picked from the north of Melbourne. ❎️ Only wished that at the price we paid that we would've gotten a dish each instead of sharing one. ❎️ My friend also found a pin bone in his portion of the fish (pictured). I know it's hard to find 100% of them, but I would expect them to be found at this price point and type of establishment.

Dessert gave me strong Turkish flavours with the spiced elements coming through strong. ❎️ My friend didn't like it so much, but I thought it was great.

The service was friendly. The waiter serving us was on top of filling our water and ensuring we had a great time. ❎️ Wish we could've heard more about how our food was locally sourced.

To summarise, Bar Liberty is a great environment that really feels European with its colour palette and decor that provides delicious food. Only wish they could've been more generous with...

Bar Liberty has been one of those restaurants that I have been seeing on everyone’s Instagram and hence have been wanting to visit, so when we finally booked to go I was very excited.

The food was absolutely fantastic, I could not fault it. Everything dish we had was delicate, adventurous and left you wanting more.

The drinks were also delicious, I was happy with my rose/orange wine mixture, which was very drinkable.

The vibe/decor/setting is very Melbourne so I won’t go on about that.

The staff were lovely, bubbly and a bit of fun. Happy to have a chat with us and clearly very passionate about the food and wine which is always great to see.

The only downsides for me were the portion sizes. The wine sizes felt a little ‘low tied’ but I am happy to omit this light critique as the glasses were huge and the contents of the glasses were delicious so maybe just a bit of an illusion. The food portions were however a little small for the price, not a big deal as I love supporting places like this and the food was phenomenal but just a consideration.

Overall I couldn’t recommend Bar Liberty enough. It doesn’t disappoint and I definitely will be...

Average. Had a bit of a disappointing experience to be honest which I wasn’t expecting. Food was 6/10 overall Wine was really good

Flatbread 11/10 amazing (don’t need to get cream or other dips with it, I advise using it for your dinner) Veg plate 5/10 very disappointing, not very flavoursome, love the idea, but I did not think any vegetable was used to its max potential. It was boring and bland Mackerel on rye 6/10 Lamb (deep fried), my friend had it and did not like at all Potato dumplings 5/10, needed more seasoning. It had the cacio e Pepe smell but totally lacked basic seasoning of salt and was drenched in butter. Could do with more pepper and cheese, way less butter. Beetroot egg yolk 5.5/10, again it was simply a bit boring! Liked the concept and it had beautiful beetroot but the cracker wasn’t great and the egg told was flavourless.

Other major issue is service which I think will make or break your experience. Honestly the waitress was very moody and rude. She got us out of there before our booking was up and there was no apology whatsoever.

I wouldn’t recommend this place especially with many other places with better service and...

A thoroughly impressive dinner menu and cocktail/wine range. Bar Liberty is a great venue if you’re looking to have an intimate dinner and drinks. I was really impressed by the quality of the food and flavour profiles of each of the dishes. The wholemeal sourdough was light and fluffy, the coral trout was had a great freshness and acidity to it that you look for in a seafood cerviche, the potato dumplings had such an interesting (good) texture with nice subtle flavours from the cheddar and sauces, the meat dish was seasoned very well and cooked to a perfect medium rare and the polpete has such a rich, juicy flavour profile. This was one of the best wine bar experiences I’ve had in Melbourne. The cocktails were very nice, and included some modern/novel takes on traditional cocktails and the staff were excellent. They were never too far away and took pride in the business’ work. The venue itself was nice and intimate and definitely one to think of if you’re looking to have a solid catch up with friends or family.
