Went here for dinner with my lady friend on a Sunday evening and was initially impressed with the atmosphere and styling. The menu seems very limited compared to most Indian/Nepalese restaurants I've been to before and it seems more is available to takeaway than is on the eat in menu which is perplexing.
I ordered a biryani (which is one of the dishes not on the eat in menu but is available for takeaway, so you have to ask if they have it) as well as numerous other dishes which we shared between us. The quantity of food was good. The biryani tasted overwhelmingly like cardamom though, I was afraid I might bight down into one of the pods and anyone who's done this before knows that that's a one way ticket to ruining the rest of a meal.
My main gripe came when we were finished and I asked to have the leftovers packed up for us to take with us. Anjali then seemingly agreed before taking away our plates. When she returned I asked where all of our leftovers were and she said they had been thrown away. I honestly don't know how this was lost in translation but it physically hurt knowing how much leftover food she had just thrown away. A simple confirmation from her confirming her misunderstanding was all that was needed.
I may eat here again but honestly with the numerous other Indian and Nepalese options out there, it won't be...
Read moreI’ve eaten a lot of sub continental food so was hoping for something special at Base Camp. There are all your favourites with generous portion sizes and great service. Between 10 of us we had a selection of traditional meals like lamb curry, vegetarian dishes, beef curry, tandoori, roti, rice, raita and more. Every meal had its own unique taste and although I’d call the flavours ‘Australianised’ it was still good. You can eat in or takeaway and the kitchen was doing a roaring trade with orders. So although not busy inside, the Uber eats were coming and going. Note: wheelchair accessible, disabled friendly, kid friendly, reasonable parking out the front as well as...
Read moreWe rarely go to Indian restaurants, but were intrigued that Base Camp promotes itself as the home of Birmingham Balti - eg. British-style Indian food. We ordered their Beef Balti and Eggplant Curry. Pilau rice, garlic naan and Lachha paratha, which was perfectly matched by a delicious bottle of Serafino Sangiovese from McLaren Vale. Everything was very tasty. Reduced their rating on account of (1) huge chunks of fat in the beef balti, (2) the first item my wife wanted on the menu, Prawn Balti, was not available, and (3) the first drinks we wanted on the wine/beer menu were...
