HORRIBLE!! There is a short and very rude italian guy there that spoke to me like a dog calling out "Oiii BUDDY" last time I went for lunch and my order was ready... He made me walk across the cafe to him to collect my order, with the way he spoke to me and his whole demeanor being truly awful. It goes without saying I have not been back since. However it gets worse.... Today my colleague went in there to get something to eat and relayed something this short italian had told him along the lines of.... "tell your friend (me) I am from the south of Italy and my family will put him under the ground for $1. - that "I am lucky he has let me off and will not do anything to hurt me" This is absolutely disgraceful and constitutes my life being threatened, which I could have easily taken to the police to have an AVO issued against him for threatening my life. I will NEVER EVER step foot in Blood Orange again which is a shame, because all the rest of the staff there are absolutely lovely and the food was delicious until my experience dealing with this italian scumbag shattered my experience. BEWARE this rude and obnoxious little git they have running around. I will never recommend this place to anyone, least of all my customers (I work at a local business in Hawthorn) whom often request a good local place to have their lunch. I cannot believe this has...

Super slow service. Be prepared to wait.

We went in there and only wanted to buy 2-3 things and get some food takeaway. They weren't terribly busy (3-4 people in the cafe? and noone else in the shop area) After waiting around at the counter with absolutely noone to serve us for 10 mins a lady came and then left again. Finally, her colleague served us and they were so slow that apparently one of things we ordered had 'sold out' in the time we were waiting. It then took another 10mins to heat up. So all in all we waited around 20 mins. Meanwhile the people in the cafe area were also left waiting.

It would be good if they displayed prices of the items too. What's up with Melbourne's cafes almost never displaying any prices?

Even though we live nearby and even though they have a nice selection of goods to buy and in the cafe, we won't be going back. What a shame. Service was absolutely non-existent, wait times were way too long (there was no queue and noone waiting in front of us) and they were just too understaffed and the staff didn't seem to understand what customer service is. What a disappointment.

(My 3 stars is extremely...

Normally I come here to get some of their amazing sandwiches and savories and a coffee to go. But every time I went the coffee didn't seem so good... Finally today I found the reason why, I took this picture of the very poor condition of the coffee machine. I am an experienced barista and I'm aware of how to take care of the machine so that you can assure a good taste and a safe drink for customers. However, just by looking I can clearly see it is totally unsafe to drink any drink coming for that machine. Customers are in risk of intoxication with this poorly maintained steam wand. The barista doesn't really look like a very clean person either.... As all the coffee area was messy and the milk jugs had dried milk on the outside!!

Personally I won't be going back to this place and I advise everyone coming to this place to keep an eye on the way they handle the coffee machine before thinking about getting a drink.

It's a shame this nice and cozy place lacks proper cleaning, as the food and the rest of the products...

Only a stone's throw from home, Blood Orange has become our local brunch haunt. With a rotating menu and comfortable interior, it's a great place to come for a relaxing meal. In celebration of Burger Day in early August, Blood Orange offered a range of 5 different burgers at $15/each. I ordered the incredible vegetarian option of "Shroom Shroom Burger" - made from a mushroom and mozzarella pattie, topped with beetroot hummus, spinach and aioli. I can only hope this burger would one day become a permanent fixture on their menu. The shashuka is a regular order of mine as I enjoy the pieces of chorizo and nuttier twist to it. The egg and bacon rosti is delicious and quite easily a substantial meal itself. Blood Orange is definitely a bit of a hidden gem in Hawthorn East.

We have come to this cafe a few times and each time the service and food has been amazing. The all day menu is varied and has lots of options as well as there being food options at the counter. The staff here are so lovely and the service is great. I tried the croissant and the cherry oats, both were very tasty. Dad got the cornflake chicken burger and said it was very crunchy and fresh. The smoothies here are also very refreshing and flavourful with many choices. If you are looking to try the wine bar by night, they make a mean G & T. Overall the atmosphere and experiences at Blood Orange have been marvellous and we will keep coming back.
