If you were ever wondering where to get the best burgers in Melbourne, I have definitely found one of them. 📣
Brüger, hidden and unsuspecting on Barkley St is an absolute dark horse. I visited a few years ago when they were operating as a cafe before they recently transformed into what it always intended to be - a boozy burger bar. They haven’t promoted themselves heavily yet, but you would know the owners from their buzzing local cafe, @west48.
The experience here is unlike your regular burger joint, the service and vibe is sophisticated and personalised. It has an American saloon style diner feel to it. A place you can relax with some subtle music and enjoy some table service and a beer or wine with your meal. Ian will happily explain or recommend something on the menu for you, the passion for good food here is unmatched.
The menu is large, they are still constantly tweaking and perfecting it. We struggled to make a choice only because everything sounded so good! We started with a couple entrees, neither came with a sauce because they shine on their own. The Jalapeño Poppers were deliciously saucy and the Chicken Bites with Chilli Sour were crunchy and flavoursome (it is their own secret recipe better than any KFC you’ve tried 😉).
Onto the burgers, The Hungry will tick all the boxes. Perfectly layered and you can taste every ingredient. The Mexican you get that crunch from the corn chips and heat from the jalapeños. We loved the brioche buns used and that neither of the burgers were greasy or messy, afterwards we didn’t feel we had just eaten something unhealthy. To pair with your burgers you must get the Fat Cut Chips with Gravy, honestly it’s the best.
Couldn’t rave about Brüger more, already wondering when we can visit next. Being around the corner from home, I’m...

Where to start, 10% surcharge on Weekends and 15% on Public Holidays with the motto "Our staff work weekends so that you can enjoy yours". Your staff work weekends because it is the most profitable time for the business to make money, you aren't doing the community a favour by opening up on weekends you are open for financial benefit as it is the busiest time. I don't see why i need to contribute towards this by paying a surcharge. How about you take on the 10% wage increase from the 80% more profit you would make on weekends then your regular Monday-Friday takings.
I don't see the local pub charging me 10% extra for a pint on Saturdays or the SuperMarket increasing there price of milk on a Sunday- Both are faced with the same penalty rate issue as you.
Secondly- Coffee is well below average.
Barista looks like they live in a squat and makes coffee how i imagine coffee in a squat out of a dirty kettle would taste.
Lastly- Food is over priced and tasteless .
Don't waste your time, heap of better options within a close proximity. Just had a coffee from a new cafe 200m away and it's...

Total Spend: $72 • Cheese and Bacon Burger ($19): A well-executed, straightforward burger. Simple yet satisfying. • Poutine ($19): Unfortunately underwhelming. The gravy was overwhelmingly salty—even a light dip was overpowering. While the inclusion of cheese curds was a nice touch, the dish as a whole didn’t capture the taste of traditional poutine. • Philly Cheesesteak ($26): More akin to a brisket burger than a classic Philly. Flavour-wise, it was decent, though uneven—some bites were juicy, others noticeably dry. At this price point, a touch of BBQ sauce could have elevated it. • Jalapeño Bites ($8): Just three pieces, with a frozen store-bought feel—comparable to Costco’s version. A dipping sauce would have added much-needed flavour and value.
I think the major difference this would have made if we dined in was the poutine, perhaps the chips would’ve been soggier and taste a bit more like poutine, but the gravy was...
