Food was good but we left with a bad taste in our mouths. Like some of the other reviewers, I agree that the male waiter needs to improve on his customer service or he should be fired. We were waiting by the door for our table and because it was a bit crowded, we thought we’d be helpful and move away further away to allow them more space to work. We were maybe about 5 metres away from the front door. Little did we know that by being courteous, we did not hear our names being called and our table was given away. When we went to enquire about our table, we were met with that same male waiter who was very patronising and told us quite rudely that if we were not around, they would give away the table. I tried to explain where we were standing but he shut us down by repeating himself and implying that it was our fault (again very patronisingly). We weren’t being difficult, but he somehow felt the need to be mean and ruin our experience. Thankfully the rest of the visit was pleasant enough, we ordered the eggs benny and mac n cheese. The benny was delicious, hollandaise sauce was very well balanced and the sweet potato hash and haloumi added interesting touches to the dish (the hash was over cooked and bordering burnt but was still edible). Mac n cheese was average. All in all, this cafe is fortunate to have such a strong following for their food; but the standard of service from that male waiter leaves much...
Read moreHad an appointment in the area and like always, I try and support the local community there by spending time in smaller establishments. And boy was I glad I tried here :)
Firstly the atmosphere. An old Milk Bar that has a rustic, private and very cool layout. From the ammunition boxes that hold your cutlery, to the greenery inside with a wall of plants. Just a cool hangout spot...
Next, the service. EXCELLENT, served by 3 different people (including the owner) and nothing but courtesy, smiles and general good vibes. The owner took the time during the lunch rush to answer my questions about the history of the place. Never made me feel like I was being annoying (I probably was to be fair haha)...
And now the food. SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY! As a self appointed Chilli Scrambled connoisseur who has sujuk running through his veins, I can tell you that this is THE BEST in Melbourne... By far... So much so, that I felt compelled to thank the chef. Wifey had the Eggs Benny with Salmon and said that the sauce was spot on, hash brown fluffy and the haloumi cooked perfectly (such an easy cheese to burn). Wait, what about the coffee? Bang on and delicious!
Might be a bit for away from us here in the North, but highly recommend if you're a local or passing...
Read moreTucked in the friendly neighbourhood is a corner cafe that offers consistently amazing coffee, baked goods from Noisette and your classic breakfast and brunch options.
Menu is not the most exciting, but I can tell you they put a great deal in serving dishes with beautiful presentation and taste decent.
Despite corn fritters appearing small, it was quite filling, so be warned since brunch places can be quite filling. I really liked the bowl of fries - seasoning makes the fries really addicting. Aioli sauce is average. Highly recommend the fluffy chilli scrambled eggs with a heavy kick of spice from the chorizo - nice element of umami!
Had to try Noisette’s baked goods but unfortunately not as fresh as I’d like it to be but wasn’t sure whether I could ask them to warm/toast it up. Almond croissant was so delish despite its cold texture, making this a good candidate for the top almond croissants in terms of flavour and butteriness ONLY. Wouldn’t order the raspberry croissant again though.
Coffee from Allpress Espresso was very smooth, with the Bonsoy adding a nice creaminess and sweetness to the cup of joy!
Service is a vibe here - guy’s has got the fuel of energy we all thrive for in the morning.
