Friends in area had recommended so always happy to try a new place and I absolutely loved the decor of the Brunswick Food Store, one of the staff said it was an old biscuit factory. The venue is huge with lots of seating inside, high ceilings, old timey decor (light fittings, wooden tables, bentwood chairs, paintings). I loved how it looked. The menu had all the usual breakfast items and lunch and specials that were midddle eastern. I had gnocchi with pumpkin, husband had their big breakfast while friends had porridge, pancakes and vegetarian breakfast. We also had chips to share. My partner and I ordered a Bacon sandwich and a sausage sandwich (BLT and SLT),$18 each +weekend surcharge. My sandwich had three small pieces of sausage in it, one lettuce leaf and a single slice of tomato, my partner's the same with a very small slice of bacon.
I wish we had taken of photo as these sanwhiches really needed to be seen to be believed. Totally unacceptable, especially for nearly $40. We were both hungry afterwards and had to get a snack on our way home to fill ourselves up.
It's a real shame as the atmosphere and venue are pretty great here. But if this is the standard of food at the Brunswick Foodstore, it's simply not good enough. A real disappointment and a waste of...

This place just made it to the top of my list.
It has all of the things you love about Melbourne! Old wooden floors? Check. Lots of artisan light bulbs? Check. Brick walls covered in white wash? Check. It's all there - all you need to bring is your Birkenstocks!
