This place is awesome I did a Google maps search to find a place en route to Melbourne CBD to stop in the Uber whilst I awaited my hotel details being sent. The Cornish Arms looked the best thing between the Iroirt and the city from about 20 Odd pubs I looked at in the back of the Uber. What a stroke of luck. The vibe is great, chilled out tempo cool music. Funky beach club type vibe. The indoors is nice and they have a load of outdoor seating too. The staff are friendly. They have some good beers on. They have daily soecials. I came on a Monday which is "Soulvaki Mondays" with a lamb or chicken option. $25 with a beer or $18 for just the food. They have some good vegan and GF options too. I got the lamb. I'm not even joking, it's one of the best things I've ever eaten. It's basically a pulled lamb version of a Donner kebab and chips. Absolutely amazing flavour. It came in under 10 mins. I eat a lot and I'm stuffed so it's good portion. All the other food looks great. The guy serving siad the chicken is amazing too. All the food is mainly under $30 apart from the steaks, so it's really reasonably priced for Melbourne. Beers are mostly circa $15 a pint. But they also have a $10 craft beer if the month which I'm going to try when I finish this current beer, which is the Cosmic Microwave, which is a lovely IPA. THANKS GUYS! JUST WHAT I NEEDED!

Service 2/5 Vegan food 2/5 You sort of have to make your own atmosphere, which after a few jugs is 5/5 Well done to me, not so well done to the Cornish. I feel like the vegan menu has been more or less the same for a longggg time. With the addition of a few things here and there, for example the buffo soldiers - which in theory are excellent, but in execution, not so much. The TVP patty in the Mac Daddy is way too thick, and way too bland. If it had some flavour and some grill char, thinner and more likewise to a fast food burger patty they might be onto something. I tried this product around 2 year ago, I thought after so much time it would be perfected by now but sadly not. The special sauce is also anything but. The vegan 'chicken' is just a wet, soggy mess. More reminiscent of pork belly than chicken and the flavour is non existent. There's so many amazing recipes and products out there to play around with, I wish the cornish arms would be brave, and compete with the other stronger competitors. You're losing the race guys.

Very laid back, relaxed pub, busy for a Monday night. It was Souvlaki Monday! $15 for your choice of souvlaki filling (lamb, chicken, vegan and vegetarian options) plus salad and chips. We both opted for pulled lamb. Admittedly, it was definitely not an authentic souvlaki but the lamb was juicy and succulent and had enough sauce, lettuce, tomatoes and sliced onions wrapped up in a warm soft tortilla. It was also a little spicy. The chips were great- crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Stayed crispy - not hard, even when it cooled down. The standard pub fare salad was topped with some pickled onions which was a nice touch. Also had some cider and a Lychee Mojito. The lychee flavour was subtle but was refreshing enough. Service was friendly, polite and prompt. Food was well portioned for the price.

Rudest staff ever

Went here the other day and I can only say avoid this place unless you like to be treated poorly.

The place was fairly empty, with only about 6 or 7 tables taken in the large downstairs area. My partner asked politely for a table out the back. An older staff member looked him up and down, curtly said yes, and walked off on us towards the back door and said to find a table out there and he will bring menu soon.

We waited for a few minutes and no menu came, then I decided to get some beer while we waited. I went to the counter where the rude older staff member was standing around not doing anything. I was the only person at the bar apart from two guys who had just been served food / drinks and were talking. He briefly glanced at me, walked past and started wiping the surface down of another part of the bar nearby 2m away, then had a short social chat with a staff member, then picked up a phone to use and then looked behind me and asked whether anyone needed help. I looked back and there was still no one at the bar apart from two guys eating and talking.

Finally he asked what I wanted. I ordered a pint and a pot of beer. He said to get two pints and was about to pour the second and I told him that my partner was driving and light-heartedly joked that he is an easy drunk to try to improve his mood. He grabbed a pot glass, grumbled something and poured some random beer and gave it to me. I was a bit weirded out by this, but just paid and left it at that. I asked if I could grab a menu while here, he said no, and that he will bring it out soon.

I went back outside, and waited for our menu to come. I managed to finish a pint of beer and no menu came. We watched as other people ordered and received their meals. We tried to attract other staff member’s eyes, but were ignored.

We left hungry and embarrassed.

I could understand the situation if the place was busy, but there were about 6 or 7 other tables in use at the time and about 3 or 4 staff members milling about on the ground floor.

I don’t know what their problem was, but I guessed it was more likely that we were not cool enough for the place.

There are so many better places to go, so...

We visited the upstairs bar on Friday, we went from a wedding where we had a few hours to spare before the reception. We had a small group of great people with us. We all experienced terrible service and rudeness from almost each off the bar staff. The younger bloke was lovely but the rest of them were absolutely terrible forgetting items then rude to us when we asked about it, even asking for ice would set them off to rudely walk off and us wonder will they will be bringing it. When ordering at the bar again it was terrible rudeness continued, asking for 2 drinks then in-between adding 1 more simple drink politely would get a rude are you done is that all response. Simply talking to the staff was a no go, continuessly felt like everything was inconvenience for them, the simple task of ordering a drink at this bar just felt like it was wrong and we were just an inconvenience. I looked around wondering maybe they are busy or somthing but they were not at all this is 1-3pm during the day! simply just very very bad management allowing such rudeness to take place continuessly by multiple staff members. Truly amazed me. nice place though for the view and a chilled vibe with bad careless music in the background. Just yea order 1 drink only at a time and say absolutely nothing to the staff and you'll be ok. Maybe the nights are better... who knows you could consider that but the 10 or so of us will not be going back, not sure how they have any good...
