I’ve moved yet again, this time, to Melbourne and there’s no place quite like Brunswick and its culture. Especially when it comes to food and coffee. So here we are at Wide Open Road. My dad was actually the one who discovered this place, and thank goodness he did because it’s become a regular spot for myself. To either have a coffee, a treat, breakfast or a place to sit peacefully and read. Right off of Sydney road, in a sweet spot, you’ll find friendly faces of staff who are always polite and make a darn good coffee - my dad agrees. Along with their breakfast choices. My personal favourite is the Breakfast Bacon Bap. Which I am currently sitting and enjoying as we speak. I’ve only just started drinking coffee, and it isn’t an everyday thing, however if I were here everyday, it would become a must have for me. The blend isn’t bitter nor sweet, it’s smooth and creamy. My dad on the other hand, loves his coffee and said himself that their double shot espresso was the best he has had, this man has gone to many places to know what he likes and doesn’t like. I’d advise that if you need a place to get a quick coffee either by yourself or with a friend, make it here, and if you can spare the time to eat, I’d highly recommend.

Have you aver asked yourselves the question why you are having your coffee where you are having it? Do you always go to the same place, or do you change your place often? And what would make you change your cafĆ© routine? Today I had the pleasure to be served by an absolutely outstanding barista. She was super welcoming, explained me everything and served me all coffees and the warmed croissant 🄐 to the table. She took the time to take me through the coffee menu, explained me a bit the history of their cafĆ© and the roastery and gave me an amazing table so I could see into the roastery. She also came to ask me how I feel about the coffees, how the croissant tasted and whether I wish for anything else. Thank you for this absolutely best practice hospitality. We baristas should always remember that we are not rockstars, but work in the hospitality sector. The customer is the focus, and the producers are the stars ✨. THANK YOU šŸ™šŸ». … and one my way out, I have been asked again whether everything was fine 🄰. Thank you, it was a lovely encounter.

It was odd. The first time I came here the service was non existent, I got forgotten about twice, my food was wrong and our dessert never came. This time the service was impeccable (bar a waitress just outside the front door not bothering to say hi as we walked in) the service was prompt and efficient. The orders came fast and came hot and delicious. The bacon sandwich made with that apple relish was amazingly good and stupidly filling. So tasty. The almond lattes were both delicious, made to the right temperature and smooth. Unsure what blend the guys at W.O.R are using but it’s good. We were also treated to a song and dance party from the staff as they were closing. It’s really nice to see people enjoy their jobs. Only complaint is the noise when the place is busy - voices reverberate and echo in here so it gets stupidly loud. Not sure what y’all changed since last time but please stay that way!

Went there on the weekday for lunch with a friend. Firstly, nobody would acknowledge us - we needed to ask for assistance from staff (all of whom seemed to be busy chatting with each other) - to be told we would need to wait for the manager to seat us. 15 minute wait ... the manager, I noticed sat down to eat eggs possibly avocado on toast ... totally ignored us. Finally, she deemed it fit to show us a table. 15 minutes later, nobody approached us with either a menu, water, or even any acknowledgement. So pretentious ... did I not fit the bill for their required clientele, was I too old (I am over 50), not dressed appropriately, was it the color of my skin? Who knows but I WAS IGNORED. My companion had enough - it was over 40 minutes by this stage of patiently waiting - and suggested we leave, which we did. Went to another establishment and were treated kindly and with consideration. While the food at Wide Open Road is lovely, and the atmosphere is ambient, I will never go again. I would also ask you if you do not fit their requirements in looks or colour perhaps go to somewhere else which is ...
