Iāve been to Butter Days twice now and thoroughly enjoyed everything Iāve tried so far. The pastry itself is beautifully buttery just as the same suggests. It has a nice crispy, flakey exterior and that soft, airy interior you want in laminated doughs. The sourdough in the bread products is also delicious! Iād love to see some loaves and rolls on the menu one day as itās excellent.
So far Iāve tried a classic croissant, the signature sunshine bun with the delicate lemon custard filling, the macadamia scroll that has a lovely nutty, slightly savoury vibe, the coffee scroll with sticky coffee glaze and fennel seed, the button sea salt cookie, and the BMO bun with Comte cheese that proves even something as simple as a cheese roll can be very impressive when executed well.
I love that the pastries arenāt sickly sweet and John has taken a paired back approach. This is a place where subtle flavours and quality ingredients are given an opportunity to shine. Youāll find all the bakery staples here like pain au chocolate and almond croissants, but even the basics have been given a bit of a unique spin that stays true to what itās supposed to be while also making it different from others youāve had before. The barista also makes a very smooth coffee, one of the nicest iced lattes Iāve had.
Malvern is on the other side of Melbourne for me but this is a bakery worth driving south of...

I personally don't like sourdough due to the tough exterior but it was excellent with the perfect amount of butter and excellent gruyere. The ham and cheese pinwheel was a highlight, a bit pricey but i think the quality almost matched that price with a generous amount of ham and a deceptively flavorful grated cheese with a delicious bread base. Definitely getting that again. The Sunshine Bun is the real mvp here. Amazing pastry surrounds an unexpectedly flavourful custard with a good citrus blast for a refreshing and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreā Rating: 2/5 Visited the newly opened Butter Days in Malvern this weekend since itās right in our neighbourhood ā honestly, quite disappointed. Had to wait nearly 15 minutes in the queue, only to spend around $20 for a macadamia roll and chocolate croissant š„ that didnāt really live up to the hype.
While the staff were friendly and welcoming, the pastries were below average and the pricing felt way too high for what you actually get. For a suburb like Malvern, which is known for its great cafƩs and food spots, this was a letdown.
Hopefully, they improve the quality and bring something more special to the table...
