Disappointing experience, especially for parents with young children
I visited Cabin for a breakfast date with my 3-year-old and sadly left in tears. Just as our food and coffee arrived, my son urgently needed to go to the toilet. He had already opened the staff toilet door and was inside when I quickly went to the counter to check if it was okay for him to use it. I was told no — we’d need to use the public toilets outside, in the next-door car park (which, when we got to them were completely blocked, unlockable and not suitable for a small child to use).
As any parent of a toddler would understand, this was an incredibly stressful moment, the kind that makes you wish you hadn't stepped out the house. I had to scoop him up and rush out before he had an accident, leaving our freshly served food and coffee behind. When we came back in, not a single staff member — acknowledged what had happened. Other customers noticed.
Before we left, I spoke with the manager who was on her laptop sitting on the table next to me. She repeated that it was policy and said she didn’t know what she could do to resolve the situation. I understand policies. I really do. But what was missing here was common sense, I wasn’t asking for anything unreasonable — just a quick toilet trip for a little boy on the verge of an accident at a nearly empty cafe where I'd just spent my money. When they referred to policies, it felt like dealing with a government department in a hospital pandemic, not a small low-key cafe who makes their own toilet policies.
If you're a parent with young kids, I’d suggest thinking twice. What should have been a special morning out ended in tears — and not...

Lauren, the owner, has created a warm and inviting space where locals and their four-legged friends are always welcome. Their annual "Dogs of Cabin" calendar, featuring all the adorable pups that visit, is a delightful touch. The fact that proceeds from the calendar go to support MND via Run4Rossy makes it even more special—Cabin isn't just about good food and coffee, but also about giving back.
The menu has something for everyone, whether you're after a comforting toastie, a hearty sausage roll, or a light breakfast option like their Posh Crumpets with lemon curd. The sourdough creations are a standout, especially the Hawaiian toastie with jalapeno hot sauce for a spicy twist on a classic. If you're a fan of savory wraps, the smoked salmon wrap with cream cheese, capers, and mozzarella is a must-try.
Cabin Coffee and Deli also shines in its support for local Melbourne suppliers, which makes their offerings feel even more connected to the community. Whether you’re grabbing a quick breakfast, indulging in a bacon and egg roll with house-made tomato relish, or enjoying a smooth coffee, Cabin is the perfect spot to enjoy the best of local flavors in a laid-back atmosphere.

Read moreAs a parent of a 3-year-old boy, Cabin has become a real gem for our family. The little one and I often have a brunch date there and from the moment we walk in, we're always greeted with a heartfelt hello from the staff.
The food is consistently delicious – the chicken toastie is a personal favourite! What I truly appreciate is how accommodating they are with my little one. He can sometimes be a bit picky with what's in his toastie or on his banana bread, and they've always been so kind and happy to adjust things for him.
Regarding the toilet facilities, we've always found the nearby council-run public toilets to be a convenient option when needed. They are well-maintained and cleaned regularly throughout the day.
What truly makes Cabin special is their strong sense of community. We've often seen them fundraising for local causes that matter to their customers, which shows how much they care about the area. In a busy cafe, it's remarkable how they maintain such a tailored touch for every customer.
As regulars, we often see how hard the team works and how genuinely authentic they all are. This level of consistent, personal attention is something you don't find everywhere and definitely shouldn't be taken for granted. We always leave feeling well-cared for and happy. Cabin is a fantastic and supportive part of...
