Hampton Wine Co — Restaurant in Melbourne

I've waited until my third time here to place my review just to make sure I really understand the place as it is really unique for the area. There is no doubting the quality of the wines served here and if this is your purpose for dropping by, then you won't be disappointed. But if you think you're going to be taken on a viticultural journey, you'll be disappointed as the wine list is pretty limited. The service is excellent and attentive. The food is nice enough but they are very small dishes, but as a wine bar, most would not expect a restaurant experience. The fitout is simple, warm and charming and in winter, it is a nice cosy alternative to the rest of Hampton Street. The number 1 reason for losing a star for Hampton Wine Co. is the borish, loudmouth mums who shriek and scream their heads off like teenagers, hitting on the bar staff, laughing at their own jokes and on one occasion, trying to outdo each other with how obnoxious they can be. Hampton Wine Co have got it so right! Really interesting wine list with the most sophisticated small plates that match beautifully with your glass (or bottle) of choice. These guys really know their stuff so if you're feeling a bit indecisive, you can trust them to guide you in the right direction. Their experience is generously shared and shows in everything they do. Decor is cosy, cool and comfortable. The only problem - choosing whether to sit at the beautiful and huge central timber table and soak up the friendly atmosphere, or perch at the bar by the window and watch Hampton St do it's thing. During lockdown, they are offering a Provedore pick up service. You can enjoy fresh pasta and sauces and a selection of meats/cheeses olives etc and wash it all down with a bottle of their best at...

So disappointed in our experience here! Came with a group of ladies, we were very excited to drink some wine and have some pizzas. Unfortunately we never got to eat. After calling in the waiter 5 times to order food, over the period of 45minutes, she kept saying she would come back for our food order. Time went by and when she actually came by we started making our order. This time her response was “it’s 8:30 and the kitchen just closed”. we were extremely frustrated and hungry to say the least…

We concluded that she had donde this on purpose, maybe she wanted to go home early or just didn’t want to bother getting our pizzas next door (pizzas are actually outsourced)…
