I really tossed and turned with the idea of writing this review, as I've been a regular at Carlos for over a decade now, was our go-to spot when we lived in Ferntree Gully and now that we've moved further out we still drop in on the regular to get take out, or celebrate a birthday like we did for my partner back in September.
We ordered a take out meal on Saturday 23rd of November, regular nachos, vegetarian potato skins, beef enchiladas and 4 take away margaritas.
The nachos were great as always, but the frijole served along side the enchilada's were just pinto beans with no sign of being frijole's, no spice, salt, mashing or any love shown to them compared to what we've had for years, and sadly the same went with the rice, lacked any sort of flavoring or salt. The disappointment really came with my partners vegetarian potato skins, generally a meal she can't finish, the potatoes skins themselves were incredibly small, lacked its regular filling and she also didn't get any side salad with her meal.
The reduction in cup size for the take away margaritas is also incredibly disappointing and hopefully not a permanent change for the price you pay.

Read moreVery unimpressed with the quality of the food. We ordered through the QR code an entree, two mains and drinks. Our entree was bought out and within 2 mins our mains got bought out. The mains had to sit there and go cold while we ate the entree. We felt super rushed to eat the entree so that we wouldn’t be eating our main stone cold. Once we had finished the entree and got to the main the taquito and taco were soggy, the meat in the taco was dry and the enchilada was sub par at best. Also the jalapeños were cut way to thick and chunky, don’t know how anyone enjoys eating jalapeños that big. Felt there was no love or effort put in, not only in the meals but the whole atmosphere itself. I’d give some more leeway if it was busy but there were only 4 tables so that’s no excuse. After complaint the manager on duty explained that if you order through the QR code on one docket the kitchen read that and make everything all at once, which is seriously piss poor. It clearly states online to pick from entrees and mains. You really need to sort out online orders because that is ridiculous. We were given a refund of one of our items which we did appreciate but fair to say we won’t be coming back anytime soon. Never had such a bad experience here and I’ve been coming...
Read moreI had excellent customer service from the owner of Carlos Cantina this evening. I made an order through Menulog, which due to no fault of the restaurant, the driver took half an hour to deliver our food after it was picked up by the driver. The food arrived near cold and crushed due to the driver having multiple deliveries stacked on it. I rang the restaurant and the owner apologised and said that he had no control over the Menulog drivers and other meals they may collect from other restaurants which impact the delivery time of his orders. As he could not offer a refund due to being ordered through Menulog, he offered to have one of his own drivers re-deliver it. 20 minutes later, the food arrived hot and fresh as it has when we previously have ordered from here. We will order directly through their website next time so that we know that the food will arrive on time and to their high standard. I recommend using Carlos's own website rather than Menulog so you don't get cold food and it also saves Carlos paying Menulog a commission for providing an inferior service.
