Forage Food Store — Restaurant in Melbourne

We have been living in Boronia for over 5 years and Forage has been a go-to on weekends. But the place and service has deteriorated over time and today is probably our last visit. If you want to have a good macha latte this is NOT the place for it. I have given it many chances but it’s never been good. The service depends on the person. We have had poor experiences on two occasions from the mature staff member. When we were waiting to be seated and the staff member attended to us - I pointed and said wanted to sit by the window in the far end but the staff member did not bother listening to me. She quickly responded saying that area is full but it actually had two places vacant including where we wanted to sit and we ended up being sat down in that area. I believe staff working here also needs to pay attention to their personal hygiene, especially if they are serving food. My husband received his cappuccino in a cup that had spillover which is a turnoff for some customers. Overall, the place can be clean and appealing being a cafe. The chairs and cushions are so dirty. I have been to Forage many times, and it was historically great. Today was different. Decided to sit outside and was happy to see they allow guests to bring their dogs. But was disappointed at how the outside area has been neglected, it used to be very inviting. We were provided menus and left to sit for a good 25min without being served, 2 waitresses came out, we even made eye contact with one, but neither took our order. 1 even went over and played with the dog of someone she knew instead of taking our order. We then went and ordered inside. Then stood there in the queue whilst non of us were being served. 1 staff member was slowly polishing cutlery and joking around with the chefs with her back to us whilst we waited. The food was great as usual. However, for us to return Forage needs to focus on training their staff to give a good experience. So sad as it WAS they best breakfast place in Boronia. This is a new review that I've updated from 3 years ago. In recent times when going into forage I've been sorely disappointed. We used to go in every day for coffee and on the weekends for breakfast with the kids. Now we go there for takeaway on the weekends because we are yet to find somewhere else to go. Coffee varies from day to day, barista to barista. Food doesn't interest me anymore. Charging "bank charges" to customers for card transactions is ludicrous. This place as, in my eyes, declined over the past couple of years. You can tell it in the service, quality of produce and coffee and the constant change of staff. All the really amazing staff that made you feel welcome, and part of the "family" have gone and the place doesn't have the same welcoming feel to it. We will keep coming in hope that things improve, but my experience is if you invest time in your staff and work hard to have the best staff everything else falls into place.
