Start with the good. Food was really good and maybe I'll bring myself up to visit one day again. That was not enough to get the sour taste of being lied to at the end.
Hadn't been out in ages and was sad to see the Sydenham branch close because that was our favourite, so many good memories! So we gave this one a go but it didn't have the same cosiness, ie no cushions, tea candlelights etc but hey glad to be out and trying to enjoy life again so what the hey. We waited ages for our soft shelled crab (our favourite!) and started to suspect they had forgotten. It happens, no big deal, happy for it to be an honest mistake. I then said if it's not made yet dont worry it we have to go. One staff said it's being made now. OK, fair enough we will wait. Then they take away our cutlery and we were thinking how we're we going to eat it once it comes. After some waiting we asked again and was told it takes a while cos have to wait for it to melt etc. Getting kind of annoyed at this point and finally after waiting so long had to go cos baby was falling asleep at the table we said just cancel it but they had brought it out just in the nick of time. We choose to takeaway. The man at the register said sorry, the new girl didn't tell tell the kitchen staff. Ok. Quietly pay and get out because I was too annoyed and stressed with my one year old.
Look they will be fine, no competition for other thai around and very likely a one off bad experience but it's compelled me to write this review. Please go and enjoy though, it's good to be out again... Just wished Caroline 2...
Read moreAll you taste in their food is - sugar!😫 The food was way too sweet and all dishes we ordered tasted the same - sweet. No flavour other than that! I was here once before and had the same experience. Then, I was thinking to give them another chance and specifically asked for a dish that was not sweet. I was offered Massaman Curry. Asked several times about the taste and sugar content to be told that, no, Massaman Curry was not sweet. Well, I could not eat it as all I tasted was sweetness. Tried my parters Red Duck Curry - sweet. Tried my friend’s Caroline Thai BBQ Combo - they even managed to put sugar over this meal! Why, oh why! I am aware that it is not uncommon to have a spoon or two of sugar in Thai cooking, but not all Thai dishes are sweet...unless you eat in Caroline Thai Restaurant. My friend from Thailand made so many meals for us, never put any sugar in her cooking. I had great food in other Thai restaurants, spicy, yes, but not all sweet. Spring rolls and roti - I have to give them thumbs up for these, very nice. This is the only reason I am giving them more than one star! However, for all other food, this place is...
Read moreThe place was pretty crowded when my friend and I arrived, and it was Tuesday night. But we were seated to pretty quickly. The food was disappointing. I had the duck 🦆 salad and it was just dry and hard slices of duck with tomato and cucumber chunks sitting on lettuce with onion. Not the duck on veg I expected for the price and what was written on the menu. It looked like an entree size. Clearly it needed rice, but the waitress never suggested it and after I tasted it I didn't want to spend any more money at the place anyway. The sauce was nice. My friend had a seafood Pad Thai and it was oily and spicy. The noodles were thin. She stopped eating half way though as it was not enjoyable. Even the roti was oily, but somewhat bearable. I choice this place over another near by as it has just a higher rating, now I wish we went somewhere else. No one came to clear out plates or ask us if we wanted dessert or anything else, we had to walk to the cashier and pay. So there was not a chance to say that we didn't enjoy our meals. Not...
