For those unknown about the history of Maharashtrian cuisine, it originates from the state of Maharashtra in western India. It can be traced back to centuries with influences from the Maratha Empire, the Deccan Sultanates, and the Portuguese colonists. This place has a vibrant ambience and a top class hospitality.
We started off with having
Vadapav (Must try) - A popular street food with a deep-fried potato dumpling (vada) sandwiched in a pav (bread) with chutneys.
Misal pav- A spicy sprouted legume curry, topped with onions, coriander, farsan (crispy snacks), and served with pav.
Kothambir wadi - made using the fresh coriander leaves, besan (gram flour) and basic Indian spices
Sev puri- made of crispy papdi (flat puri) which is loaded with diced potatoes, chickpeas, onions and various types of chutneys.
For mains we had:
Pitla Bhakri (Must try) A dish made with gram flour (besan) curry, often paired with bhakri or rice. Bhakri is a tradition Millet-based flatbreads, often made with jowar or bajra.
Solkadhi (Must try) which is a rich refreshing beverage drink made with kokum, coconut milk, and spices, often consumed to aid digestion.
To finish off there must always be a sweet and nothing better than having
PURAN POLI (Must try) Sweet flatbread filled with a mixture of chana dal, jaggery, and spices.
We give this place a solid 10/10. They have 2 branches one in the city and another in Clayton. Complete family owned business run with great...
Read moreI decided to dine in at Chai-n-Chilli recently along with closed friends, a restaurant we often order food from for home delivery. Upon entering, we were pleased to find well-arranged seating with a delightful Indian ambiance, Radha-Krishna art was so amazing & specially portrait of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj painted on the walls and Bollywood soft music.
For our meal, we opted for Jain Sev Puri & Jain Paav Bhaji and the famous Mumbai cha Vada paav for my friends. The Sev Puri was decent, but Paav Bhaji was mouth watering, it earned a solid 9/10 rating. The Vada Paav was 10 out of 10.
Chai-n-Chilli offers a diverse menu with a variety of options including Jain menu to choose from, and while our experience with the food & service was exceptional, we believe that other items on their menu are likely to be enjoyable. Therefore, we encourage others not to solely judge the restaurant based on this review and to give it a try themselves.
Despite the mixed experience with the food this time, we remain loyal customers of Chai-n-chilli. We will continue to order from them for home delivery, and we won't hesitate to return for another...
Read moreExtremely poor experience with a party booking we wanted to make. Highly unprofessional and unapologetic behaviour shown by the owner Mr. Kiran Joshi. We went to the restaurant, was shown thr party hall, it was confirmed to us that the date was available We PAID for the food tasting to confirm the dishes we want at our party. Mr. Joshi asked us to message him our final selection so he could confirm the final price. Which we did the next day. Mr Joshi started to then give delayed responses, and after multiple follow ups quoted a significantly higher price than what was indicated earlier We tried to discuss on phone, failing which, we again went to the restaurant to finalise and make the deposit Mr. Joshi on the day then told us that one of their acquaintance have subsequently come in and want to tentatively have a party on the same day as us. He then suggested that we share the party hall with them else.
We were there with the deposit, the other party was tentative, but we were still asked to take our business elsewhere with no sign of an apology or remiss.
Food is good,...
