This place truly serves a piece of Malaysia. Well, figuratively, of course. We ordered the Belacan Squid Kang Kong and the Fish Curry and they didn’t disappoint. We were brought back, by the taste, smell and atmosphere, to a seafood restaurant that we would so commonly find in Malaysia.
The level of spiciness was authentic and the dishes themselves weren’t some watered down or alternative versions of the original. The prices were reasonable and the restaurant definitely didn’t skimp on their ingredients.
I have subsequently returned here for other dishes but I’ll review those separately. If you hadn’t been here, you should definitely give it a go.
PS. Malaysia Garden Restaurant is located on level 2 of Clayton Hotel. You can either enter by the main entrance and take the stairs on the left, or you can go up by another flight of stairs just a few meters away.
PPS. The drink in the photo is Teh Tarik, which literally means “pulled tea”. It’s black tea with evaporated milk that is made by pouring the tea from one cup to another cup across a height, to give that foam. It can be quite sweet, so you can ask for less sugar if...
Read moreHaven’t been back to this restaurant for years and decided to give it a go. We ordered the fish nasi lemak, char hor fun and lorbak.
I remember this restaurant being quite good back in the day, but this time I find myself disappointed. The nasi lemak was tasteless - sambal was dry and not really sambal, soggy rice served with battered basa fish which I thought was a weird combination. The fish was soaked in the sambal and wasn’t crispy at all. Overall it was honestly unappetising and I couldn’t eat the rest of it.
The char hor fun sauce was also tasteless and the noodles were not “charred” enough. The plate was hot so I’m guessing they just put it in the microwave to heat up. No photo.
The lorbak was too thick with too much meat and was dry and hard to eat. No photo.
The waiters tried to be accommodating by giving a different type of sambal, which I found too salty.
I don’t usually give a bad review but this time the food was not up to standard as it lacked attention and care. I’m sorry but this is not what Malaysian food...
Read moreWe came here on a Friday night, the restaurant was packed with people. Luckily we had a reservation so that we can enjoy the food there. We ordered three dishes that night, which came out in about 10 minutes and costed us $65 in total. Their salt and pepper fried squid is one of my favourites. The squid was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. They also added some stir fried vegetable toppings on top of the squid, which added more texture and flavours to the dish. My partner had the Nasi Lemak fish, whichwas wrapped in gigantic banana leaves. The authentic presentation and taste of the fish made me feel like I was in South Asia. Their Singapore Fried Noodle was also delicious. There were a good variety of vegetables and proteins in the dish, including vermicelli noodles, shrimps, roast pork, chicken, egg, and capsicums. I loved the generosity of the dish! Their service was excellent too! We would like to...
