Chutney Bar Mornington — Restaurant in Melbourne

We decided to try this place for the first time and we were bitterly disappointed. The service was atrocious!! It took at least 20 minutes after seating for the waitress to even pay us any attention for even a drink. At this point we had watched another diner try to get her attention twice and she was actually ignored. Tables were left with dirty dishes whilst the waitress was in the kitchen and just ignoring tables. Due to the door being open one table had filthy serviettes blown onto the floor and they were actually ignored. The waitress just kept walking past them. Our meals were brought out but one main meal did not arrive. We waited about ten mins for my husband's meal to finally arrive so that we could eat together. I should add that the first two meals that my husband attempted to order from the tandoor section he was told that they were not available. I had ordered a medium butter chicken but the meal was bland and not exciting at all. Serving sizes were generous but we were not left feeling amazed. Service was beyond terrible on a Friday night - horrible experience. We weren't greeted on arrival and had to ask the waiter for some service and to organise a table for for two people. Waiter looked at us with a blank facial expression like he was high in the clouds in another dimension. We thought it was very strange but proceeded to sit and order our meal anyway as it smelt and looked quite nice from the outside.

We were sat on a small table, so when a larger table became available, we asked the waitress if we could please move. We only had our drinks at this point. Shockingly she rolled her eyes, raised her arms up in annoyance and made a loud disgruntled noise like it was a massive hassle to move us to another table. Horrible experience.

Overall - horrible experience, portion sizes for price is way over priced and food wasn't very well seasoned and average in flavour. Have read other reviews of this place and honestly do not understand how it is so highly rated. It's shocking. Do not try this restaurant unless you want bad service and leave...

Such an awesome little restaurant and it all started with the coolest looking entrance door, then the amazing aromas that greet you as you cross the threshold. Unsurprisingly food was absolutely amazing and the male waiter with the beard was awesome with recommendations and made the experience really enjoyable.

The female waitress with long dark hair could definitely use some constructive criticism, What can I get for you tonight?, not “what would yous like?”. Carry more than one drink at a time especially when it’s two glasses of wine. When taking orders for a big table, write it down if your going to forget something, which I she did. When ordering entrees to share, its awesome to tell us if you think we need two portions of a particular dish to share properly, but tell us when we order not when you serve the entrees. And finally table water check the bottle.. it’s not hard.

Still would definitely recommend the Chutney Bar!!!...
