Booked a table of 6 for my sister's birthday. (That was the only good part of the experience) Upon arriving we were greeted with "your table is out back". Ok. We will go and find it ourselves. (no assistance). We sat down looked around and could not see any menus. We were promptly advised that we had to order and pay online. (not an ideal way to order) After everyone ordered, we asked if we could move tables. (we were in full sun and uncomfortable) Just as we sat down, we were told off by another waitress who said "You cant just change tables. This table is booked!" (mind you, no sign on it or anything of significance other than being in the shade...) We explained that we had asked and referred to the other waitress who was still in the area. (she just shrugged her shoulders and left) we asked if we could sit at another table which seemed to be ok by all concerned. The table was vacated by a couple of boys who decided not to stay and eat afterall... It took almost an hour for all our meals to come out. Some were cold and had to be returned to be reheated. On top of the poor timing of the food arriving, we were greeted with what can only be described as appalling attitude, not by one but all three different wait staff. By this point we had had enough. The food was predominantly sub par, the service atrocious and the attitude stunk. We had waited 30 minutes for a glass of wine and a glass of lemonade. (ordered just after the meals) We asked for a refund as we were done by then. (we couldn't just leave as everything was paid upfront) Within a minute or two we received the drinks with a new layer and level of attitude to boot. Whilst the the wine and lemonade were being consumed we overheard another table ask for cutlery. The waitress replied with "we only supply cutlery with a main meal." Another table overhearing this said, "that's not true". They were told that they had no cutlery left due to the fact that they had no time to wash it. (They had actually run out!) We are locals, and are gobsmacked. Bad service. Bad attitude. Bad food. Save your money for an eatery that wants your business. Naughty Normans certainly was not nice Pics of the...
Read moreWe ordered the Normal Norman quesadilla which is the refried Bean version. The bread tasted no different to what you might find at a supermarket and the cheese tasted like your budget variety of tasty. I couldn't actually taste the beans with the overwhelming supermarket tasting cheese. We ate one slice and then binned the rest.
We ordered the large classic nachos which were also smothered in this dry supermarket type cheese and had no redeeming flavour in regards to the salsa or any other ingredients. The only notable feature was massive jalapenos and which had no spice anyway so they are just a sour contrast ingredient. The serving size was ok but keeping in mind because they're nearly $20 dish and when I do the maths if I was to pour a packet of Doritos into a foam container and smoother it in $2 worth of cheese I probably still be on the low side of $20 to be fair.
We also ordered the smoked brisket taco which was quite tiny but probably expected, the smoked beef didn't taste smoked at all it may have been oven-baked at moderately low temperature to get it to pull apart but certainly didn't seem anything like the smoke meat I make week in week out, no smoked texture no smoke ring no smoke flavour. I'm not sure what the dressing was but there was so much of it that the entire box was literally soaking wet all the way through I believe it was some sort of a vinegary type dressing.
So what's the moral of the story? If you like average takeaway food like $10 Kebabs or Maccas quality this will probably fit the bill if you're a bit of a foodie and like a good feed you are not going to appreciate this. Mornington has had Mexican restaurants fail very recently and their food was better than what I've eaten here. That on its own should be something you consider going forward the other thing worth mentioning and I'm sure you've tried is that there is a new franchise type Mexican in town and their food is actually far tastier than yours...
Read moreHaving just come back from dinner at Naughty Norman and witnessing an incredibly rude customer yell at staff because she and her husband didn’t like the meatballs, I feel I need make my contribution as we were eating the meatball dish at the exact moment they were yelling and causing a disgusting scene in front of the whole restaurant and the review they made has definitely stretched the truth. We shared the meatball enchiladas (they were tasty and definitely not drowning in oil as mentioned in another review), the cheeseburger quesadillas, which were also quite nice and the absolutely delicious macaroni and cheese empanadas. Is Naughty Norman fine dining? No but they don’t claim to be, they are simple Mexican with a twist! And serve lovely cocktails! The staff are super friendly and accommodating (and I can vouch for them that they were in NO WAY rude to the yelling lady, the guy behind the counter was calm and trying to diffuse the situation and they were extremely apologetic when said customers left) prices are reasonable and I would definitely recommend for a casual night out. I should also add we are in no way affiliated with the restaurant, we were just 2 diners who had their meal interrupted by loud, rude and entitled people that think that yelling at staff will get them out of...
