Visited Convoy after hearing varied reviews and upon first impression their eye catching dining space & fast and friendly service had already hit the mark!
🥞 Cinammon Scroll Pancakes; oh. my. god. You know when you go to a brunch place and their hotcakes are usually always super dense and just for the looks? Not this bad boy. Absolute winner - we literally scraped the barrel for more because it was just that good. Sweet, crunchy, creamy; like eating a carrot cake amplified. 🥕
🧆 Zucchini Fritters; perfectly crispy on the outside and soft but texturised on the inside. Fritters are always a hit or miss at cafes and this definitely goes on our hit list!
🥩 Steak Frites Roll; we ate with our eyes choosing this meal! It was a lot larger than we thought which already makes it’s value for money. Steak was tender and seasoned well which upon reading some reviews of others biting into overcooked/dry steak, really took us by surprise! Flavour slapped and the sauce was a huge compliment!
Although quick with serving, the quality of food didn’t lack. This was our second time visiting and we loved their Zucchini + Haloumi Fritters and Cinammon Scroll Pancakes so much the first time that we had to get it again!
We have tried their Chilli Scrambled Eggs w/ added Salmon and Eggs Benedict w/ breakfast potatoes and both were good but not as impressive for the price you pay as our primary choices. 💲💲💲💲
All in all, we’ve met consistency with their amazing coffee and service and in terms of the mixed reviews with their food, I guess it really just comes down to what...
Read moreCame here because the venue looked nice and it was always packed. However, I don't get the hype.
I will start off by saying the rueben was nice. But that's where it ends.
we ordered the rueben, a salad bowl and chips. Firstly, I would like hot chips with my Reuben however the sandwich came pretty quickly (which was fine) but I saw my chips sitting on the pass for 5 minutes to wait for the salad bowl.....which consists of 80% cold ingredients - cold rice, cube feta, pickled cucumber, pickled daikon, charred broccoli, quarter avocado, 1 poached egg and 3 sprigs of dill garnish. Hot food waiting for cold food..pretty ridiculous if you ask me. By the time the chips arrived, I was almost done with my sandwich and they chips were cold and soggy.
Then as we were eating the chips, the staff began clearing our plates. I felt as though I was being rushed out the cafe, so we left with the full bowl of cold chips virtually untouched.
I usually would say something at the Cafe, rather than leave a message on a review board, but the staff were poorly trained in customer service. (At no point were we asked about the food or if we wanted more coffees (to upsell) - i work in hospo and this is just standard) I felt like they didn't care anyway so I didn't want to waste my time. Just paid and left.
Everyone has their own opinion but I wouldn't recommend this place. Food isn't great but what kills it is the terrible service from poorly trained staff from both front of house and back of house. This made the whole...

Convoy is a bustling corner cafe located in Moonee Ponds, right opposite Queens Park. It is brought to you by the same team as @terrortwilightcollingwood, @hifi_collingwood and @tinkernorthcote.
On a weekend it is super busy so expect a short wait. The fit-out is stunning and features warm timber, chunky marble bench tops and stone tiling throughout. With plenty of private nooks, corner tables and a covered and heated wraparound deck, it's perfect for group brunching.
The chai latte here is gorgeous and has a good kick of spice. It comes with a small pot of honey which I didn’t even need, it was the perfect sweetness already. I enjoyed the Corn and Halloumi Fritters with a delightful carrot purée. The Breakfast Muffin lacked texture and standout flavors, making it less enjoyable. (This is not on the menu anymore, this review spanned 2 visits). The Chilli Scrambled Eggs tasted more like a curry or hot sauce than chili, and the addition of kewpie didn't enhance the dish. Both who ordered this didn’t enjoy it..
While my experience was mixed, I believe it's worth exploring more of the menu. The Turkish Eggs caught my attention as a potentially appealing option. Despite not being blown away, I still consider Convoy Moonee Ponds to be one of the better choices in the...
