We found Da Guido as one of the few Italian places open after 9 pm. Upon arrival, a man took us in but checked his watch before seating us, which didn’t feel like the warmest welcome. The reception from both him and the server wasn’t the greatest. The restaurant felt rather empty, with only a few customers there. Despite this, it took quite a while to get acknowledged by the server and have our orders taken. The server offered us a choice of still or sparkling water, and we opted for sparkling. To our surprise, she brought out a branded sparkling water, which wasn’t what we expected; we thought it would be a simple tap sparkling water. We ordered a pear salad and a Capricciosa pizza, along with house bread. The bread portion was small—just two tiny pieces. The salad was passable, nothing particularly special, and the pizza was similarly underwhelming, with a chewier texture than I would’ve liked. After finishing, it took forever to receive the bill, and I eventually had to stand up to pay at the counter. The server seemed disinterested in serving us, which was a big letdown, especially since this restaurant has glowing reviews for the most part. Overall, the experience was disappointing, from the service to the food quality.

Impressive heritage having existed in Venice for some forty years and then several years in Melbourne’s famed strip of Italian cuisine, Lygon st. This collins st location brings with it some seriously delicious pizza. The scampi pizza we ordered was definitely one of the yummiest and most memorable I’ve ever had. A unique combination of flavours and ingredients made it something truly special. We also had a caprese salad and a wagyu ravioli. You could taste the quality and freshness in the caprese and the pasta had a subtle and delicate butter and rosemary sauce which is something a bit different from the typical Napoli. These flavours were a bit understated for me but fresh parmasen helped the cause. We still managed to fit in dessert and had a zingy little sliver of a lemon tart and a yummy Nutella calzone. There was just the right amount of filling inside to not be overpowering. All of the dishes were presented well and I appreciate that this is somewhere you can go for real traditional and authentic dishes. It’s certainly cheaper than flying to Venice!

My partner and I absolutely love this Italian gem on Little Collins St – it's practically our go-to for Italian food! The service is warm and genuine, with Italian staff that add an authentic touch to the experience. The ambiance is cozy and welcoming, and the food... wow, it’s always spot-on, no matter what you order. Must-try dishes: ⭐️Polpette di Mare – Fish meatballs that are absolutely delicious! ⭐️Lasagna – This is a signature dish, and every table seems to have it for a reason. ⭐️Da Guido Pizza – If you're a truffle lover, you can't miss this mushroom truffle pizza. It's fragrant and satisfying. A few notes: Their bolognese is great, though the pasta is a bit softer than I prefer, as I like mine with a bit more bite. You can't go wrong with any of their pizzas, and we always get their pear salad, which is refreshing and pairs beautifully with everything else. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for authentic and consistently excellent Italian food!

Ruined my Valentines Day. The service was appalling and the waitress just kept arguing with me and giving me all the excuses under the sun. I recommend that she does a bit more training in how to provide good customer service (which is basic and the least you can expect). I probably wouldn’t have been so angry if she hadn’t have kept coming up with excuse after excuse when our meal was late, the table next to us who arrived 30 or 1hr later than us got their meals before us, and another table who also came later than us already finished their meal and paid the bill! She kept giving me different excuses as to why our meal was late. First it was because they’re busy, then it was because the red set menu takes longer (when the table next to me ordered the red menu too and got their order before us), then it was because it takes longer because of the meal we ordered (the restaurant only allowed a set menu, you would think they have everything prepared well in advance), then she said I have to have my dessert because it’s a set menu when I said I wanted to leave (we there at 6:30pm and it was already 9pm and she wanted me to keep waiting!) A sincere apology would have been appreciated and next time don’t fight with your customers!

Was also forced to take the “special Valentine’s Day deals”, which wasn’t communicated at the time of making the reservation. Food was underwhelming...

The food was tasty - however we wouldn't dine here again.

Our booking was for a 90 minute sitting, which we understood when we booked and that was completely fine with us - we were happy to leave after that time.

We finished our dinner after about 45 minutes (i.e. half way through our allotted time) and the second our plates were cleared away, the waitstaff repeatedly pressured us to leave.

First they started repeatedly asking if we wanted the bill, then they just bought the bill over, then they started asking how we want to pay, then they just came over and said "where can I take you to pay the bill". We hadn't even been there an hour.

It was really rude - we couldn't hold a conversation because we were being interrupted every few minutes. It was clear they were trying to push us out. Everyone at our table noticed it and commented on it. It completely ruined the experience. We just gave up and left and went somewhere else.

In short - this isn't the place to go to enjoy a meal and a catch up with friends over dinner. It's only good if you want to eat and then are prepared to immediately leave.

There are plenty of other delicious Italian places in Melbourne - where they don't treat you like this. I'd absolutely give...
