The lobby is rather nice but our first impressions of floor 20/21 was that the carpets were filthy - debris all over them the first day we came back after housekeeping had been my daughter's jewellery had been strewn all across one of the single beds the penthouse apartment is more like a loft - upstairs bedrooms were tiny with such low ceilings. As a result they were extremely dark and the lighting in them was poor (presumably because you're relying on lamps and not ceiling lights) - the cupboards in the rooms were even darker and it was impossible to see any of our items inside without a torch light. A simple strip of wardrobe lighting and brighter lamps would fix this issue. the staircase leading upstairs had an extra length of wooden plinth at the bottom (just bad design) which constantly tripped us all up. The last stair in a staircase should not have anything jutting out at the sides because it doesn't make any design sense whatsoever. They were also highly polished to the point where they were slippery - I wouldn't recommend for families with younger kids. (Ours are 12 and 10) the dining chairs and sofa all had some degree of staining on them. for a place like this the TV really should be a smart TV in this day and age. the duvet/comforter was not covered properly with a designated duvet cover, they just use a flat sheet on top and bottom so the duvet often gets exposed which doesn't feel very hygienic the shower cubicle had a mouldy ceiling above it, the grouting was also blackened with mould, the bathrooms were very small and the sinks were also not particularly functional with the taps to just one side (fine for handwashing, not much use for face washing etc.) the rails in the bathroom are square and extremely sharp. I know you're trying to do the whole modern thing but in a bathroom of that size, people are going to scratch and hurt themselves on more than one occasion on those sharp edges. When you don't have room, make it functional first, stylish second. The second bathroom had a bathtub shower but the bath tap (also sharp and square) was jutting out in the middle of the bath - meaning we had a few knee scrapes while trying to shower in there. I generally don't complain about design but when something becomes awkward/difficult/a hazard to use and you notice that it's a common theme throughout the apartment it's difficult to ignore and it makes you wonder who they hired to fit the place out. I'd laugh if I hadn't spent thousands of dollars. THE biggest issue for us however was the noise from the air con/heater. I'd say around 70% of the time we were there it made a noise similar to that of a washing machine. Really, REALLY loud. On the first day I thought it may have been just getting fired up as the place was 16 degrees inside so thought it was just working harder than usual to get the place warm. On the second day my husband showed the reception staff videos of how loud it was and we were promised that someone from maintenance would fix it. By the 3rd day it was still the same, we weren't given any updates about whether someone had come to have a look or if anything was going to be done. Around now, the constant rattling noise was starting to get me down so I had started to spend most of my time upstairs (in a tiny dark bedroom with low ceilings even though I'd paid thousands for a penthouse.) I decided to send an email to Adina's customer service and we got a phone call from reception the next morning asking when we wanted maintenance to come - (hadn't they already?) At this point we had one night left and I didn't want to devote any more energy to the issue so we told them we wouldn't bother with the inconvenience of having someone come in while we were there.
I had really high hopes for this place and would consider staying again in a normal apartment if I were given assurances that the air con would be quiet, I still appreciate the space, the views and the location. However I would never, ever pay for the...
Read moreI was completely horrified with the room condition for my 2 bedroom apartment.
When I checked in, carpet was very dirty, darken colour and dusty, stains on the sofa pillow and also pillow sheet. So when you walk in the hallway and enter the room,, you can smell the mold right away :(
The cookerhood when I turn it on, smells so weird like a clum of oil never been cleaned for many years. I took picture of the cookerhood as a proof also..
Air circulation fan in the bathroom full of thick dusts that look like never been touched or cleaned in 10 yrs. Its safe to say a 3 star hotel has a better cleaning standard than this place.
We tried to wipe the dining table and seat before sitting first time with wet tissue, so much dirt marks stained the tissue of course.
Worse of the worse, the 2 bedroom have 2 bathroom. Whenever in the morning, a person shower in 1 of the bathroom, then another person turn on water in the kitchen sink or in other bathroom, suddenly the water used in the shower turned burning HOT that hurt you badly! I then raised this issue to the receptionist which always say yes they will send technician to fix, but of course it s not fixable.
And lastly, some of the staff not very welcoming. Especially when it comes to us asking for parking vouchers to exit the parking building. They requested that everytime our car exit the building, to request a parking voucher from the receptionist. You know eventhough this hotel seems like many staff standby, there s only 1 staff in the receptionist that always occupied serving guests. So am I supposed to wait to get parking voucher EVERYTIME I get out from the hotel parking lot? What a HASSLE!!!
Some of the nice staff would give us 5 vouchers right away, but the nasty staff refused to do so. With an excuse that they can only give one per visit in the receptionist. Without clear explanation why?
Hope this review can give the hotel inputs on how to improve in order to meet the 4 stars standard. And also give fair information to others before decide to stay in...
Read morePositive feedback: Overall, we had a pleasant stay at Adina Queen Street after the first night having no hotwater till late in our 3 night stay. The room was clean, though a bit worn-out, located conveniently in CBD with Southern Cross station 10 min walk and parking in the same building - Wilson's parking ($25 per night), Staff were mostly helpful when approached.
Negative feedback: Better communication needed - On our first night, there was no hot water until 10.30 pm. We only found out the hard way after trying to have a shower following a long day of travelling to Melb from Syd. We were to have an early night on arrival for an early start at 5 am the following morning. There were no notifications from Adina about the issue, or any alternative arrangements. We were also not compensated for the inconvenience.
Carpark - Driving in the carpark and to/from is tricky. The lanes are narrow so 2 vehicles cannot pass easily, specially at the entrance and at corners. It can be quite messy when a few vehicles are trying to go opposite ways. It can get blocked, and people have to find any "empty" space for another to pass, which happened couple of times during our stay. We were surprised that there were no corner mirrors. Which would be helpful to see oncoming traffic to pre-prepare.
Parking exit tickets - Need to get a ticket to exit each time you take the vehicle out even on the same day. A convenient single pass/ticket exit system for the length of stay for Adina customers...
