Our dining experience at The Saffron House in Blackburn, Melbourne, was nothing short of an epicurean adventure that tantalised our taste buds and left us craving for more. This restaurant truly captures the essence of Indian and Nepalese cuisine, offering a feast that’s both a delight to the senses and a comforting embrace of familiar flavours.
We started our dining journey with crispy, light papadums that teased our appetites perfectly. Next, we indulged in the delightful Momos, traditional Nepalese dumplings that were steamed to perfection, bursting with savory fillings that spoke of meticulous preparation and authentic flavours.
For our starters, the Tandoori Mix Grill was a veritable carnival of tastes and textures. The plate was an enticing mix of Tandoori Chicken, Tandoori Lamb Cutlets, Sheikh Kebab, and Chicken Tikka Masala, each piece exquisitely marinated and grilled to a smoky, succulent finish. The blend of spices and the rich, charred notes from the grill elevated these classics to new heights. The plater was served in really sizzling condition.
Our main course was a sumptuous spread that showcased the depth of The Saffron House's culinary skills. The Palak Paneer was a smooth in texture and delicious to the lounge, Palak Paneer is a spinach-based dish studded with soft, melt-in-your-mouth paneer cubes, offering a hearty, creamy flavour. The Goat Curry was tender and flavourful, its robust spices melding beautifully with the rich, meaty flavours. Accompanied by perfectly cooked rice and fluffy, warm naan breads, each bite was a symphony of flavours and textures.
We concluded our meal on a sweet note with Pistachio Kulfi and Ice Cream, a perfect balance of creamy textures and delightful sweetness, offering a refreshing end to our dining experience.
The Saffron House isn't just about the food; it’s also an ideal venue for all kinds of celebrations. Read moreTHIS GUY WANTS TO ONLY SERVE WHITE FOLK, I APPEAL TO THE GOOGLE COMMUNITY TO MAKE IT SO AND BOYCOTT THIS PLACE ALTOGETHER!!!! At dinner with my wife and kid yesterday, I had to endure possibly the most racially biased service I have ever been subject to. We walk in to the place after having booked over the phone. 2 tables occupied. The "owner" asks one of the waitresses to seat us at the far corner of the restaurant, not thrilled, but figured it might be a nice cosy corner. Later realised that it was right next to the kitchen door and we would have to "enjoy" our meal to the constant traffic in and out of there. RACIAL BIAS 1: A white family comes in about 10 minutes after us, gets ushered to the opposite corner table by the waitress but are promptly moved to a central table by the "owner". I ask if we can be moved from our table too and with about 3-4 tables suited to fit us being vacant, I am told that "they are all booked"...note that none of these tables had been occupied even when we were walking out of the place RACIAL BIAS 2: We were never spoken to by the "owner" but I noticed that every other table (coincidentally occupied by Caucasian customers) were waited on by him.....apparently we were not even worthy of the usual "how is everything" enquiry THE KICKER: At the end of the meal I mentioned both these things to him while paying up...one would expect an apology and possibly be told that he was sorry we felt that way or something to that effect, instead he tells me that I should not take it personally.....not sure how i was not to....and the worst part was that mid-conversation he proceeded walk away from me... So disappointing that we Indians are the ones who are the most racist towards our own...
Read moreFinished my first 5 day week in a new job and was truely exhausted so take away was always going to be the option for our Friday nights dinner. Been two years since we last took away from Saffron House and only two things changed. We ordered Nanas instead of rice and we ordered via a Deliveroo instead of Uber Eats. Other than that delicious butter chicken, and samosa with a comfortable level of spice. The clay oven chicken tikka was super delicious too. We’ve made the effort to try many of the others around us but Saffron House is one of the more enjoyable we’ve had.
Previous Review Uber Ate from Saffron House tonight after a LONG working day. We’ve done the take away thing once before and we’re impressed by the quality. Tonight we had our regular butter chicken order, this time with a 1/2 tandoor chicken, samosas and rice. I enjoyed the vegetables samosa which was quite mild and the tandoori chicken was nice and tender. Loved the flavour of the butter chicken but they could have been a little more generous on the actual chicken quantity. Overall a tasty meal for this tired...
