Before I begin, I'll start with the fact that I've been to the collins street location, and had dined in. The dine in experience and food AT THE CITY location was fantastic. My experience with Dodee Paidang's Glen Waverley locations' takeaway is much less to be desired.
Ordered three pad thai, and three roti's with peanut sauce for takeaway. Having judged my dodee experience on the city location, I well recommended it to my friends whom I was having lunch with. Pickup experience was fine, I was greeted by a friendly waitress as I entered; the cashier, after I mentioned my intention was to pickup an online order, called me by my name, which is always polite. The horror arrived when I brought the food back to my friends house. To our dismay, it appeared as though the pad thai's were microwaved, in microwave packaging. The serving of roti may as-well have been non-existent, a thin sheet of oily pastry. Before passing judgement, we thought to try the food first, and what an abysmal experience it was. The pad thai was completely dry, devoid of any flavour of which pad thai's are normally bursting with; the whole meal as mentioned above, was basically a microwave meal. I would have had better value, better tasting, and a more filling lunch had we purchased an $8 frozen lasagna at Woolworths instead. As for the roti, it was a thin sheet of oily pastry, barely resembling a roti, more like an overcooked sheet of filo pastry. The only redeeming quality of this order was the peanut sauce, which was only slightly flavourful. This meal greatly affected our moods for the rest of the afternoon, having expected tasty thai food, and being met with a small serving of dry noodles and thin filo pasty left us feeling scammed.
I wouldn't normally take the time to write such a review, but this experience was so bad I could not keep it to myself. As an institution which claims to dish up authentic thai food, you cannot as self-respecting owners of such an institution, be serving microwaveable meals for takeaway and charging restaurant prices. For reference the whole order cost about $88, this was including a 15% surcharge for the "public holiday" (easter Saturday where everything is typically open anyway)
You cannot in good conscience continue to serve such food, please re-consider your approach to takeaway orders; I am still thinking about this two days later, I wasted my own, and my friends money recommending your restaurant.
I'd like to re-iterate, this was my takeaway experience, perhaps dine-in would be completely different, like it was at the city...
Read moreI recently visited Dodee Paidang, a highly recommended Thai restaurant in Glen Waverly, with high hopes of indulging in a delightful culinary adventure. Unfortunately, my experience left me deeply disappointed, as the food was far from authentic and the service was abysmal.
Let's start with the food. The dishes I ordered lacked the vibrant flavours and delicate balance of spices that are synonymous with Thai cuisine. The pad Thai, a classic Thai dish, was an absolute disaster. The noodles were overcooked and mushy, completely lacking the necessary stir-fried texture. The flavour profile was dull, with an overwhelming sweetness that completely masked any hint of tanginess or spiciness. It was a disappointing imitation of what could have been a delectable dish.
As for the green curry, it was a pale and watered-down version of what I had expected. The curry lacked depth and richness, with the predominant flavour being an unpleasant bitterness. The vegetables in the curry were overcooked, losing their freshness and becoming mushy. It was evident that little attention was given to the preparation of the dishes, and the lack of care was evident in every bite.
Now, let's move on to the service, which was equally disappointing. From the moment I entered the restaurant, the staff seemed disinterested and unattentive. It took an eternity to even get a menu, and once I placed my order, the wait for the food was excruciatingly long. Empty promises of "it will be out soon" were made by the waitstaff, but the minutes turned into an hour before our meals finally arrived.
To make matters worse, the waitstaff demonstrated a complete lack of knowledge about the menu. When asked for recommendations, they seemed clueless and couldn't provide any helpful insights about the dishes or their ingredients. Moreover, they seemed irritated when asked for explanations or modifications to the menu items. The overall indifference and lack of professionalism from the staff only added to the disappointment of the dining experience.
In conclusion, Dodee Paidang fell far short of its reputation. The poorly executed dishes lacked the flavours and authenticity that one would expect from a Thai restaurant. Coupled with the apathetic and uninformed service, this was an experience I would not wish upon any Thai food enthusiast. I would advise anyone seeking an authentic and enjoyable Thai dining experience to look elsewhere, as Dodee Paidang simply does not deliver on...
Read moreThis place serves some pretty amazing thai food with a really lively atmosphere. We got the omelette with crab meat for $27.9 which tastes really good. The egg is cooked nice and crispy on the outside, seasoned really well. It’s filled with a bunch of crab that gives it a really meaty taste and is just amazing. It’s a bit oily, but that’s part of its flavour HAHAHA.
The Pad See Ew for $19.9 was surprisingly good to me. It looks pretty plain, but everything in it is just cooked really well and delicious. It’s slightly sweet which I really like, which isn’t very fishy like oyster sauce and is pleasantly sweet. It has all these bits of meat inside that taste great. The meat isn’t overcooked and still really soft and easy to chew through.
We also tried the pineapple fried rice for $19.9. It’s amazing, very large to share, rice is tasty. The crispy pork belly inside is really good as well, which is an additional $1. It makes the dish complete and a good diversity of flavours.
We got the dodee king size with flat noodles for $35.9. This soup dish is amazing too. It’s not too spicy as we got level 1, and the soup is not like some of the tom yum I’ve had. It’s a bit more sour and savoury, has a large variety of ingredients in there so you can try a bunch of different stuff. The noodles are well cooked, not too soft and still has a nice silky texture. Everything goes well with each other, especially the soup. The different meat inside is well cooked and not tough, with great flavours. I liked the crispy bits at the top that adds a nice crunch. It’s really massive to so we can share it amongst the 4 of us.
Lastly we also tried the grilled chicken for $14.9. It’s really well grilled, nice and soft, juicy, and the skin has a nice flavour to it. Well seasoned, sauce was a bit mild but really good.
Overall this place served really amazing Thai food for pretty reasonable prices. We shared these amongst the 4 of us and were really full. Foods I highly recommend would be the crab meat omelette and pad see ew, those were...
