This restaurant offered something that I never had before. It was my last resort as most of restaurants were usually full during weekend in Glen Waverley.

I was hesitating to enter the restaurant as the name of the restaurant was not so special. I am always being sceptical and stereotype about a Chinese restaurant contains a word "dragon" in it. Pardon me, but my personal experience with name of restaurants with a word "dragon" in it is always bad or disappointing. As if there is no other choices of name apart from "dragon"?

My wife asked me to check if the restaurant might had something to offer which I might like to have. Then I saw a couple eating two big bowls of soup which smell amazing. I was briefly talking to the couple and asked how to order the meal.

Basically, you just pick anything you want and the restaurant weighs your pick and cook them for you. There are only two styles of cooking; in soup or stir fry; and the level of spiciness. So I chose one of each. And OMG, it truly blew my mind. The soup broth was nothing like I ever tasted before, so tasty and delicious and the stir fry was amazing too.

I will definitely come...

This restaurant is a big lier that they don't weight the pot you are using to pickup foods for weighting! Last night I specifically went to find out if that's true that they don't weight the pot. I chose little food. However even with the few selections, the total cost was $43! Plus weekend service charges and card commission charges!! Total cost is $45+! They said they don't charge the soup base! Do you believe their lies? Thought we're dumb? Then gave a ticket for getting a free soft drinks! Do you think that doesn't add in the cost? What I'm suspicious is they must have charged according to what you selected, more costly foods and cheaper foods such as tofu and vegetables! I won't return to the Dragon Hot Pot restaurants anymore because they ripped off people!! With almost $50 for one person (I was alone) its worthwhile to go to next door Korean Wayu Barbecue restaurant!! I don't recommend people to go there. That signature ma la tang we can cook it at home...

We went here for our weekly date night. My wife was pretty tired and wanted to eat elsewhere, but we went ahead with our original plan anyway. When we entered, there was a MASSIVE GROUP of people, but we still ordered and had a good time.

If you are thinking of participating in this experience, consider (a) sharing a bowl with your partner/ good friend (signature something special we can’t remember), (b) don’t sit near the door when it is cold and (c) be aware that it is a little bit on the pricey side (10% surcharge on weekends) when all your ingredient dreams come true. We did not buy the mango juice, but it seemed like a pretty cool thing to buy.

I told my wife many stories about work and she shared about her many conversations with friends. When we checked the time, my wife was surprised that it was already after 9pm! This place has a very young vibe with energy and...

Update: it's less busy than when they were new, but can still get quite crowded during peak times. Food is still good and variety is good. Price has gone up to over $4 per 100g - Great concept for hot pot which allows you to experience a variety of hot pot goodies. you get to pick whatever you like from the refrigerated display and fill it into a pot which gets weighed. You pay $3.20 per 100g (as of August 2019) and there's a min weight of 400g. Soup option are good too. From bone broth to spicy (ma la) stock, to stir fried, etc. The biggest challenge is to get a seat, since there's usually a massive queue that sometimes is so long that is not worth queuing up for. Taste wise, it's pretty good. Overall, it's a good budget conscious hot pot place in the area. Since the other hot pot restaurants would easily cost you $60 for dinner per person.

Just be aware that the chef might not put all your ingredients. This is what happened to me: I put two crab sticks to our plat, and they were missing. I informed the staff/the manager the issue, and without asking me any question, he offered me the new crab sticks. When I started to check my dish and found one prawn was missing as I put four. I asked the manager, " Why is food missing?", his answer was he didn't know how it happened and maybe the chef forgot to put them in. How you can remember other 3 prawns but one is left behind. Come on! We paid for our meal full price, and it is expensive too, and you guys just scam your customers like that. If you keep going to dragon hot pot, try to remember what you put and quantity. In the end, th manager tried his best to keep us cool so he refunded us back our money.
