The original GRAND TOFU restaurant - located on 102 Kingsway, Glen Waverley VIC 3150 - is a Glen Waverley institution! They make the most amazing Malaysia dishes, particularly Malaysian Chinese dishes.
But what they are especially famous for, hence their restaurant name is the Yong Tofu, a Hakka Chinese dash in which piefes of tofu filled with ground meat mixture or fish paste is served with noodles and soup or broth that is synonymous with Malaysian Chinese cuisine! Over the many years and numerous times I or both my friend/godfather Peter and I have done either takeaway or dine in we did have Yong Tofu.
Whether you takeaway or dine in - Peter and I very highly recommend dining in - Grand Tofu's Yong Tofu is an absolute MUST to have whether it's your first time or latest time visiting. Displayed in front of you will be different varieties of noodles and different varieties of Yong Tofu, fish balls, and dumplings. Pick any noodles, pick any six pieces of protein and pick your soup or both - usually curry soup that is basically laksa soup, Tom Yum sweet and sour soup or pork broth - and the very highly skilled chef will cook it all up and presented it to you in a in ceramic bowl for dine in or a round plastic takeaway bowl, the perfect absolutely delicious nourishing piping hot bowl of noodle soup you can have!
Most definitely try too Grand Tofu's aforementioned Malaysian dished imcluding Malaysian Chinese dishes...there Hainanese Chicken Rice, Traditional Nasi Lemak, Kampung Steamed Rice With Curry Chicken, Traditional Stir Fried Noodle With Beef, Ipoh Combination Hor Fun With Egg Gravy - to name a few of the numerous dishes Peter and I had in addition to the Yong Tofu over the years - as well as a massive selection of such authentically delicious dishes that will take you back to Malaysia and even Singapore and Thailand (Grand Tofu also has dishes synonymous with those countries).
I am so sorry to both the owner and all past and present staff and chefs for only putting in this 100% positive Google review of Grand Tofu on Kingsway now, I have no excuse for not putting it in as soon as possible after my first few visits to you all years ago.

Read moreA friend asked me to meet her at Village Cinemas Century City and, when I asked her why we’re going so far to go to the cinema, she said that next to it are some of the best restaurants.
She wasn’t lying.
The Grand Tofu has to be one of the best experiences I’ve had with Malaysian food and I simply cannot wait to go back for more!!
The restaurant’s specialty is their Yong Tofu Soup - something I’ve never had before:
There are three Soup Bases to choose from - a Curry Soup (this is a Malaysian Laksa), a Braised Soup, and a Tom Yuk Soup Base. I went with the Curry Soup, which was fantastic - full with strong, bold flavours.
The next thing you choose is the noodles that go in it - there are a couple of types of rice noodles - vermicelli and thick - and yellow noodles (the same used for Mi Goreng). I went with the yellow noodles. (NOTE: You can ask for less noodles if you want)
Finally, you get to choose 6 pieces of the most amazing Tofu, Dumplings, Meatballs, and other yummy stuff you’ve ever had!!
Once you’ve made your choice, it only takes a couple of minutes for the Soup to be brought to you and then the magic happens...
This was simply fantastic!! The noodles are still al-dente, which I love. Obviously, the longer they stay in the hot soup, the more they’ll cook, hence my advice to have less noodles to begin with. Each of the things I added on top was packed with flavour.
All of this for $10.80!! Are you kidding me? I’d pay $16 and still be happy!!
Although I’d love to try a different soup base and other toppings, the menu also offers so many other delicious things and it’s extremely affordable. The calamari looked insane and was around $8-8.80 (I can’t remember).
As per standard, every table has complimentary tea.
The service was very good and attentive. All servers had smiles on their faces and were happy to help.
An absolute gem in Glen Waverley and very highly...
Read morePortion size has been reduced but prices gone up. Favourite dish would be salty fish fried rice, love the wok smell. Other dishes are similar to China bar. Charsiu with dry noodles were not great. It was thinly sliced I thought it was print outs from a magazine. The noodles were smaller than an infants palm size. Not impressed. It's been a hit and miss lately. Some days the dishes are served well and presented as shown on the menu. Other times I wished I was in box Hill China bar. China bar is Glen Waverley is terrible so I wouldn't even compare grand tofu with it. Used to frequent here often even when it was located closer to the train station. The only dish I'd travel to get would be salty fish fried rice and on a few occasions I couldn't even spot the salty fish or could count the pieces of chicken, felt robbed. I'm not picky with food, but when you worked hard for your salary you'd like to make it worth it when you spend on a dish that nourishes you so yiu can continue to work and also smile while you munch on it. I would have given it a few morw stars but one too many occasions when I cursed while I eat something I paid too much for. Being asian, frying rice is simple as doing maths! So when they stuff up your favourite dish, you regret why you bothered wasting half an hour drive and a fraction of your hourly pay to waste your stomach space when you could have had better else where. Hope grand tofu is reading so they can be consistent. Wbry maths problems must have all the steps set out like your ingredients and flavours and aromas should be laid out on your...
