As someone from a Southern Italian family, eating out is never an easy sell. It’s a rare feat to convince my parents, especially my mother, to step away from her home-cooked meals. But when I finally managed to get her to Pizza Farro in Moonee Ponds, I knew we were in for something special—and I wasn’t disappointed.
From the moment we arrived, Pizza Farro felt like home. And when I say home, I mean the kind of comfort and warmth you get from your Nonna’s kitchen, or your mother cooking on a Sunday afternoon. That’s how authentic and genuine the food was. In fact, my mother turned to me midway through the meal and said, “This feels like cooking from home.” For an Italian, and especially one as particular as my mother, those words mean everything.
We visited the restaurant when it was only a week or two old, and the hospitality was as fresh as the food. Daniele, the owner, introduced himself and immediately made us feel like part of the family. His warm welcome and genuine enthusiasm for his craft set the tone for the evening. When he spoke to my mother in Italian, I could see her melt—there’s something about speaking in the language of your ancestors that just makes everything feel more personal.
Daniele insisted that we try his prosciutto, and I’m so glad we did. It was unlike anything I’ve tasted outside of my father’s garage—where he used to make his own cured meats. The delicate flavors, the perfect balance of salt and sweetness, transported me straight back to our family kitchen. That moment, sharing food with Daniele, felt like an extension of our family traditions.
What truly set Pizza Farro apart was the sense of being treated like family. Daniele wasn’t just the owner; he was a host, a storyteller, and a passionate advocate for his heritage. His love for all things Italian—especially food—shone through in every dish, every conversation. It was clear that Pizza Farro isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a labor of love.
The food itself was spectacular. Every dish was bursting with flavor and authenticity. From the wood-fired pizza to the homemade pasta, it was the closest I’ve come to the meals prepared by my Nonna and mother. And I don’t say that lightly.
I can’t recommend Pizza Farro enough. If you’re craving an authentic Italian dining experience right here in Moonee Ponds, this is the place to go. I already can’t wait to return—and I know my mamma is looking forward to it too. Daniele is the real deal: humble, genuine, and passionate about bringing a true taste of Italy to our doorstep. Don’t miss out on this hidden gem—it’s a family experience you...
Read moreGood evening, I am writing to you in hope that this horrible experience doesn’t happen to any other patrons of your restaurant in moonee ponds. Tonight 21st August @7:20 pm a group of 8 women Including myself came to your restaurant for dinner. After our order was taken it took about 15 mins for our drinks to come out (all Coke Zero ) and then 1 hour for our meals … we were told a large booking came in just before us so that was taking a lot of there time (unfortunately this isn’t a customers problem if staff/restaurant can’t cater for large amounts they should not be taking a table of 8 ) ….unfortunately this is where things start to go terribly wrong. Our mushroom ragau came out and it was the wrong pasta as stated by the waitress it was gluten Free and we were told “ the cooks mucked up the order and used gluten free pasta are you okay to have it still “ - the waitress was new and was set up for failure poor on management and the cooks behalf Towards the end of our meal a friend of mine found a black about 5-6cm long thick hair hidden under her salami( mind you this friend is heavily pregnant) this is a OHS FOOD HAZARD I asked the waiter to speak to manager and after 5-10 minutes the manager came up to us and I explained what happened and she flat out said no this is not my cooks they have short hair ( there was no apologies) she said what do you want me to do cook another or take off bill As we were leaving the restaurant the cooks made comments to us and we notice they have long beards. We expressed these concerns to the manager and she continued to bite back and put things on us and not have very good customer service. It’s really sad a new restaurant has come to the neighbourhood and the service was so poor we will definitely not be...
