FAT JAK'S BENTLEIGH — Restaurant in Melbourne

This was a tough one. In the world of franchise restaurants and fast dining (guzman, burgatory, schnitzel, etc) fat jaks is a five star, however in the context of all burger joints or restaurants in this price bracket, it's more of a 4 star. But a good 4 star. The restaurant is clean and decorated well, and feels welcoming. The staff here at this location were GREAT, never had that level of service from a "chain" restaurant before. Everyone was very attentive, friendly, smiling, and genuinely seemed to enjoy being there and having a busy dinner service. This can't be understated because it shows they care and that care makes for a far more enjoyable dining experience and even makes up for some short comings elsewhere. Food: We had a You my boy blue, and a magic mushroom with some sweet potato fries, onion rings, and a oreo shake. For the beef burger, it was nice and it came together well but not wow. The hero is the toasted buns. The meat was nothing special and a tad overcooked as most chains tend to do, and the blue cheese was barely noticeable, but the bun caramelized onions, and American cheese rounded it out and kept it enjoyable. The southern friend magic mushroom was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The flavours worked well and it's a great veggie option that isn't trying to be imitation meat or some weird quinoa / lentil / bean burger. The fries were a tad too salty, or overseasoned, but they were great otherwise. Onion rings were awesome and had a great crunch balanced with the sweetness of the onion. Chipotle mayo was good but it's a hint of Chipotle. The We man burger was a good portion for a youngster. Come to think of it they forgot the drink that it includes.

The oreo shake was nice and a decent size. They have a biscoff shake I wanted to try but noticed they use 10-15 of those lotus biscoff airplane biscuits, and each one was individually wrapped! A lot of unnecessary plastic waste. That just seems inefficient and wasteful, I hope they can buy them in bulk packaging instead

While we were there it got pretty busy and I overheard several patrons with issues with their orders (sitting by the kitchen window), but again the staff responded well and the customers seemed content.

We will go back given the service, menu selection, and overall food quality, but hopefully this location can make a few tweaks to give it that...

It's such a bummer that I can't give this place zero stars! The most disappointing burger place I've ever got a burger from so wish I hadn't wasted any of my money on this place. Burger was tiny compared to other places Grill'd is usually my go to place for burgers so will stick with them but beware of FJ's this place is a rip off for what you're getting which is a tiny tasteless dry bun along with a dry tasteless beef pattie. Grossest most inedible tasteless food I've ever put in my mouth. It's such a shame this place shattered my expectations (not that they were execeedingly high in the first place coz nothing compares to the perfectly crafted deliciousness of Grill'd and their burgers) as I was somewhat looking forward to trying out this place to try something different but was left completely and utterly disappointed. People please keep your hard earned money to spend on actual quality burgers that actually does burgers right, Grill'd!. Deeply regret the $30 I spent at this place for an inedible tasteless dry af burger. Too late now ig but at least I know now to never ever order a burger from this place and will stick w my go-to, Grill'd. FJ's you've been a huge disappointment and no apologies could justify the level of disappointment I have as nothing I've ever had has ever tasted as dry, tasteless and inedible as yours did. I recently ordered from Fat jak bentleigh and was thoroughly impressed! The burgers are absolutely delicious juicy, well-seasoned patties with fresh toppings that really make each bite burst with flavor. They have a great variety on the menu, from classic cheeseburgers to more creative options, and everything is prepared perfectly.

The takeaway process was seamless. My order was ready on time, packed carefully to ensure everything stayed fresh and hot by the time I got home. The staff were friendly and efficient, which made the experience even better.

The portion sizes are generous, and the price is really reasonable for the quality. I also loved their crispy fries and the selection of sauces that complement the meals perfectly. This is definitely my go to spot for burgers now!
