Fish On The Block — Restaurant in Melbourne

Can only comment on seafood (or more accurately batter and oil) and chips. The only thing that had a taste that you could identify above the oil was the "seafood" stick. The batter was so sodden with oil it was mostly inedible. The scallop was obviously frozen when cooking because it was raw and cold in centre. The fish bites had a tiny amount of white stuff in the middle of a mass of batter and was undistinguishable as fish. Calamari obviously out of a packet as it had a completely different coating to the rest. The chips were nice but over salted... Yes i should have told them not...

Was trying to choose out of a few fish and chip shops to order something on DoorDash for lunch and chose this one based on the reviews. Unfortunately our entire order was overcooked. Chips, fried dim sims, potato cakes and corn jack. Lamb souvlaki wasn't great either. No salt on anything. Nothing was crispy, it was just tough, cottony and leathery. Super disappointed for an almost $40 order. Only redeeming quality is that it all came hot.

Maybe it was a bad day at the shop but I won't be ordering from here...

We used to love coming here but the last 3 times we’ve ordered the battered flake, it’s been so dry it’s not enjoyable at all. The potato cakes, South Melbourne dim sims and chips are all great, but not the fish. I am not posting this review to discourage other customers, but rather in hope this will help improve the quality. We would like to come back, but the fish needs to be fresh and tender, even if it means you have to charge a little bit...
