My friend and I went to this cafe and ordered a matcha with a mushroom meal ($25). While I enjoyed my meal, I cannot justify the price of this cafe and it feels like an absolute rip off. First of all, we got an extra charge because it was a weekend, but we understood. However, my friend and I specifically told the worker that we were eating in the cafe and she asked us if we wanted a take away cup or a mug. Since we were eating in the cafe, we saw no point of ordering a takeaway matcha. So we ordered 2 mugs. However, the waiter charged us extra money for the mugs. How does everyone expect us to be sustainable when we get charged money for a mug? Not only that but the matcha was average at best and we were served a small mug on top of that. Even the matcha at Woolworths is more delicious. My meal and my friends meal costed us $40 and $34 respectively. This is crazy considering that I’ve been to cafes in Richmond, South Yarra and Fitzroy that charge MUCH LESS. This place is a rip off and it thinks too...

I really enjoy visiting 5 Sparrows, they have friendly staff, delicious food & coffee & are in a great location. Unfortunately, I just cannot justify $5 for a large coffee (which in reality just keeps getting smaller & smaller). I see they recently reduced the size of their cups but didn't reduce the price. I also don't understand why they need to have a 10% weekend surcharge, I can understand public holidays, but buying 2 coffees on a Saturday morning (one with sugar) costs me $11.50. I could buy 3 or 4 coffees at another shop for that amount. As they are gaining more traction and opening more services (Uber Eats), I would like to see them reducing the prices of their coffee, especially for the loyal customers who have been buying coffee weekly from...
