Mocha Mojo Cafe & Lounge — Restaurant in Melbourne

Food was reasonable. Coffees good. We were having breakfast with friends, 5 of us in total. A scrabbled eggs on toast, two Classic Bennys, and two of The Big Mojo. I had The Big Mojo. My quality indicator is always the Hash Brown, this one, while hot, did have a slightly oily taste, and if I can taste the oil it’s not great. The rest was ok. My wife had Scrambled eggs on toast, this was ok, however a bit salty. When ordering I did specifically ask for a toast that wasn’t sourdough, the manager who took our order told me they had grain bread, that sounded good, so was ordered for the Scrambled Eggs on toast and The Big Mojo, unfortunately it was sourdough grain bread, so not as expected. This is a cafe that you go to the counter to order which is fine. The meals were attempted to be ordered at the same time, all in consecutive order with no other customer in between, however the manager distracted himself between taking our orders. The meals did not arrive together or close, the first two arrived then the following three at least 5minutes may later. We were well into our breakfasts then our coffee’s arrived, they were so late that I had to ask where they were. The coffees were nice. Would I recommend this cafe for a meal, well not really. Was it good, it was overall good food, but coordination of meals and drinks not so good. The cafe was about 25% full, but had a constant stream of coffee orders, so I wouldn’t think it was stretched. I did speak to the manager before leaving about the disappointing aspects and although he was apologetic, he wanted to explain the way things worked there. Some friends and I went to the new Mocha Mojo at Fountain Gate on the weekend. Ive been to the Eden Rise location quite a few times, its not my favourite place, its always very loud, service is hit and miss, they dont sell lattes in a glass and I dont like the chunky cups, their sides (baked beans) are ridiculously smalll servings for the price, but theyre not things enough to complain about. I went to the FG store and ordered Shakshuka, its actually amazing at the Berwick location and my expectations were it would be the same. I couldnt have been more wrong. I got 2 FRIED eggs! and a ladleful of watery oily liquid with some sausage and tomatoes. The serving staff asked if everything was ok, I told them I wasnt satisfied with the meal and I wouldnt be eating it so if shed like to take it away that would be ok. She apologised. Someone else came and said they would arrange me a refund. I didnt ask for a refund, I was happy to just send it back and not make a fuss, but if they were offering a refund to fix the problem, great. I sat with my friends for about 45 minutes, no refund. When I left I told the staff Id had a disapointing experience and I wouldnt be back, and was annoyed Id been OFFERED a refund for it to then not happen. The manager said it had come back to her I didnt want a refund. Communication between front of house and back of house was clearly not great. So I left with no refund and had an at best average coffee. I was back today and another friend asked if we should go there and I said no and told her what happened yesterday and she wont be returning...

I like to give feedback in hope that owners will address the issues and to know that’s working well.

The good: really great food (great menu) comfortable atmosphere generous servings visually appealing food manager/owner visually checking in on people and staff (keep on the staff, was good to see) perfect coffee

The bad: after being told where to sit, didn’t speak another person. Pretty ordinary service from waitstaff. order at counter sign is hard to see and nobody tells you (we used order at table but again - no communication). Just telling us what is expected would of been nice. have to get your own water (that’s fine) but wasn’t even sure where?!!! no serving staff smile or speak dirty cutlery (visual food on forks) coffee came after food and only after prompting (was not busy) felt like a takeaway joint rather than cafe but given cost, service needs to be better from the waitstaff

We regularly go to two other cafes and whilst the food and coffee were great here, the service is pretty below standard. Hoping the owner/manager can rectify this as it has loads of potential and return regular customers (like ourselves) are what keeps your business running.

Would I go back? Not quickly. I always give a bit of time between visits to see if things have changed but I won’t give several chances - no matter how good the food/coffee is. Back to our regular place next week - we will try...
