As a solo patron, my breakfast experience left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, my visit was marred by a sense of isolation that could have been easily avoided.

Upon arrival, I was promptly seated at a small table for one near the door. While I understand the need to manage seating arrangements, being refused a more comfortable table due to being on my own felt like a reinforcement of my solitude. The reason given, "I'm keeping tables for two above for larger groups," only heightened my feeling of being an afterthought.

My assigned table, unlike all the others, was not properly set up. I had to request basic items such as sugar, which added to the sense of being overlooked. The view of the busy door and cabinets of food and drinks only added to the less-than-pleasant atmosphere.

While the coffee and food were decent, the overall dining experience left much to be desired. A great dining experience encompasses more than just what is served on the plate; it also includes the ambiance and the way patrons are treated.

Suggestions for to Enhance the Experience for Single Patrons:

Flexible Seating Arrangements: Consider allowing single patrons to choose their preferred seating, especially if the cafe isn't at full capacity. This simple gesture can make a significant difference in their comfort and overall experience.

Welcoming Atmosphere: Train staff to ensure that all tables, regardless of the number of patrons, are set up with the same attention to detail. This includes having all necessary items such as cutlery, napkins, and condiments readily available.

Inclusive Attitude: Encourage staff to be more attentive and considerate towards single diners. A warm greeting and a check-in during the meal can go a long way in making them feel valued and welcomed.

Strategic Table Placement: Avoid seating single patrons in less desirable locations, such as near the door or in high-traffic areas. Instead, offer them a choice of tables that provide a comfortable and pleasant dining experience.

In conclusion, while the quality of coffee and food at was satisfactory, the lack of attention to the needs of single patrons detracted from what could have been an enjoyable visit. By implementing these suggestions, can create a more inclusive and welcoming environment...

What a find! I love the alleyways of our amazing city when they have delightfully cozy and tasty cafe's.

From the moment we arrived all wait staff were polite and attentive. When we quizzed about the kids menu with one of the waiters, he checked with who I assume is the owner or manager, who came over and spent time making sure my daughter could order practically whatever she wanted. Now THAT'S service :)

The meals were very delicious and although I thought my pulled beef sandwich was a little too salty, my wife who tried it was adamant it was great.

The only criticism I had was that the food took a very long time to arrive considering the place wasn't full. I was going to rate Gordon's 4 stars because of this, however the honesty, genuine apology and explanation from the manager/owner made me feel comfortable that this was not the norm.

Now as a final note, I really wish Google come up with a way that doesn't allow idiots to post 1 star reviews because of stupid reasons. I'm talking to the douche complaining that the cafe asked for something valuable to be left behind because they had forgotten their wallet and couldn't pay their bill. Seriously? You should have offered that rather than be upset your incompetence put the business in an awkward situation. ...

There's nothing better than walking thru Melbourne's city streets and stumbling upon a pearl of an eatery. That's what happened when hubby and I were heading down Bourke Street last Sunday morning. Seeking nourishment and caffeine after a night out, we looked left, down a long, dark, 'secret tunnel-like' laneway and were immediate attracted to the mystical festoon lights. Next, as if by magic, we saw an a-frame sign, beckoning us to Gordon's Cafe & Bar for breakfast. We weren't disappointed! Dining in the laneway, the dark, cool, quirky vibe was backed up by fun, happy and enthusiastic wait staff. Providing fast, friendly service with a smile - nothing was too much trouble! The amazing coffees were backed up with even more amazing food. So if you're in Melbourne city, looking for a chilled breakfast, it's worth seeking this cafe out... not just a meal but a...

Despite the construction around the joint, the handwritten sign stood out and drew us in, the alley took us to a lit up cafe with awesome antiques and memorabilia, we were welcomed with a big hello and a smile from the owner, we had a great chat about the history of the business. coffee was great, breakfast was wicked! Was such a great experience we went back the next morning! 10/10 only thing that took away from the atmosphere was the construction on either side of the street, but will be back for sure!
