Grouse — Restaurant in Melbourne

Unfortunately this was an unfortunate experience. Here's my breakdown:

The shop itself is small-ish but pleasantly designed, with a cozy interior and an inviting outside seating area. Although we saw there's a courtyard as well, it was unfortunately closed during our visit.

The menu, while not extensive, offers a few options. The taste of the acai was okay, although not the best I've ever had. Grouse offers two sizes - a tower served in a cup and a bowl, and prices are comparable to other competitors.

However, my disappointment started with the toppings. While obviously you can always add more toppings, for the items on the menu there are significantly fewer toppings available compared to other competitors. What I also found slightly frustrating was the poor distribution of toppings on the acai, leaving much to be desired in terms of presentation and flavour balance.

I think that with some improvements, this place could easily be much more popular and a standout in the local acai scene.The staff was friendly and accommodating but unfortunately, their efficiency fell short - what was quite unfortunate was that we took away our orders and when got home actually realised they mixed/messed up the orders and had to add at home the extra toppings that actually we paid for and they forgot to add. I hope other clients had a better experience!

This new cafe in Carnegie is perfect for those wanting a delicious and healthy snack, meal or smoothie! I can’t recommend it highly enough. The friendly staff and homely vibe in the cafe really added to the experience and I will definitely be returning soon!

The Nut Case and Golden Bliss smoothies were absolutely delicious and very filling. The perfect addition to any meal or if you want something easy to take away.

The Blue Signature Ocean Bowl was really something else. Very eye catching with the blue colour and so yummy I could get another! The add ons added to the texture of the dish perfectly.

The brekkie board was very good and included everything you need for a varied and delicious breakfast. Some feta would have really been a nice addition to the avo toast however it was still...

Both times ordering açai bowls for delivery have been nothing short of excellent. I like to think of myself as an açai bowl connoisseur, and the bowls Grouse cafe offers reach my high standards. The açai base is beautiful, not too sweet, perfect amount of açai in the base, it doesn’t taste artificial or an açai “poser” base, like a lot of other cafes. There is a generous amount of toppings that compliment the açai, and the overall size of the bowl is perfect. Unlike a lot of other places in Melbourne, this Grouse makes bowls actually worth the price tag. I live in Brisbane, and I make my açai at home, so it can be difficult to find açai close to what I usually make when I stay in Melbourne. Grouse has resolved that issue.
